HELP!!! Car stereo install nightmare.... which wire is which???
Hi,
I just got a '00 OEM Civic Si CD player to put in my '96 hatch. I am having troubles trying to figure out which wire is which.
I got a reverse harness for the deck. I also found all the respective speaker wires, so that is taken care of. I just need to figure the rest out. I have blown 2 fuses already so I have decided to stop until I get some information.
Here is a list of wires I need to find on the stock harness:
-12v power
-12v memory
-dimmer
-illumination
These are the wires I have left:
-white/blue w/ 1 silver band
-yellow/red w/ 1 silver band
-red/black w/ 1 silver band
-red w/ 2 silver bands
I have tried a bunch of different combinations, but after seeing a number of small sparks and blowing 2 instrumentation fuses, I NEED HELP!!!!
Please help out if you can...
TIA

I found some information on the web. However, it still doesn't work. I don't see any information on the dimmer wire.
This is what I have so far:
Memory : BLU/WHT
Ignition Pwr : YEL/RED
Ground : BLK
Illumination : RED/BLK

"The dimmer and illuminations wire are the same."
Does that mean that I wire them together????
Can you explain in detail....

Get urself a Multi-meter...or take the car to a professional certified shop that offers a warranty such as Best Buy (all certified MECP installers)
Multimeters are the only safe and correct way to do what u are trying to do

white/blue tracer----- memory,constant power
yellow/red tracer-----ignition switch power
red/black tracer----- power side of illumination circuit
red-----ground side of illumination circuit
I personnally would not hook up the illumination circuits if you do not know if the head unit works off the + or - signal.... you head unit will illuminate when powered up, but you will not be able to dim the display...
btw.. most stereo installation screw ups involve the illumination circuit and is not a pretty site when the wires are reversed... it usually..
Burns out the diodes in the dash cluster and leaves the light circuit in the guage assembly inop..
or.. creates low resistance in the cabin harness melting wires together.. this is especially ugly.. be careful bro!

Breakstuff,
Well......
I think I fucked it up. I blame myself for being impatient and thinking that since I can build a motor, I can install a "stupid stereo deck".
From your list I see that I got all the wiring hooked up right last night. I thought that i blew the deck so I found another stock radio today and tried to plug it in. Still no luck.
I checked all the fuses, since I blew some last night and they all seemed fine. I hope it is not a worse case senario. After I replaced the fuses the AC and instrument cluster lights up and dims. So I think that is okay....
I am thinking that after I have spend over $100 on 2 stock Si stereo decks, and they both seem to be fine, I might as well sell them on ebay. I think that I will just buy a system at Best Buy and then have them install it since installation is free at the moment.
Thanks for all your help....
