Default Head unit installation on a 93 240sx...issues

OK i bought a new sony head unit a little while ago and got the wiring harness and wired it up correctly and connected it to the vehicle and nothing happens. It dont turn on or anything. I checked and replaced ALL the fuses and still nothing. I got the deck itself tested and it works. I also fixed up some crappy wiring on the car itself. Oh its a 93 240sx SE. I am totally clueless on how to get this to work. Info is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

did you plug in the antenna? nissan harnesses dont have grounds, so the radio grounds through the antenna or better yet you ground it to the metal in the dash.

Most Nissan's oem radio harness plug does not contain a ground lead, the stock HU is grounded through the chassis.

However, I bet the adapter harness you got has a black ground lead in it, and you connected the HUs ground to it, and that's why it does not work.

You can just connect the HUs ground to the chassis, if you use the stock mounting bracket and pocket, [some custom work needed, depending on HU you have] you will get chassis grounding, [I would still ground the HU lead to chassis.

This may help... http://www.installdr.com/Insta...5.pdf

Although the ant. will supply a ground for the HU it is not the proper way to ground a HU, it is also not the way an ant. works, the ant. cable needs to be grounded at both ends for it to be properly shielded, at the base of the mast and at the HU, [receiver], your Nissan probably also has that "we want to be different" Nissan ant. plug instead of the standard motorola ant plug, so you are using an ant. adaptor. 94

A definite possibility. 94
