Default Good set-ups in a CRX

So right now, I have some entry level Sony speakers and a JVC KD-G510. I bought the head for the front AUX input so I could play my ipod. The set up is pretty good for the price, but im looking for more.

I did a search for 'crx' on this board and 2 results came up. What are some good set-ups to run in a crx? Im looking to spend $500-$600 for 4 new speakers and an amp. Am I budgeting too little?

Remember, the crx doesnt have a good trunk to act as a sub enclosure and an oddly shapped area for the rear speakers.

Thanks for any tips

Shop online, and you should be able to do something in that price range.
Shop sites like ikesound.com ( if factory warranty is not important, some items warrantied by ikesound only )or ebay. There are deals to be found everywhere.

I wouldn't even fool with rear speakers, if you do, just run a midwoofer/midbass.
Invest in some quality highs for the front. Due to the lack of mounting depth, make sure you use a standard 6.5" door speaker, or maybe run a good 5.25" component set. Just make a plate for mounting the smaller speaker.

I just purchased some Aura amplifiers from http://www.partsexpress.com, and they seem nice. You could get the 50x4 for 99.95. These are buyout items, so they may not be warranted by the manufacturer....risk you take to save a buck or two.

I would probably look at getting a 10" sub and enclosure to go with the door speakers and call it a day.

To sum it up:

Quality front speakers
4channel amplifier bridged to 3 channels, using built in crossovers
single subwoofer and enclosure for rear.

This would make a nice budget system, and you should be able to peice it together in your price range.

I only have 5-600.00 in my crx, and I have 2 smaller 2 channel amps, a 6 inch component set and a single 12" sub...( wish I used a 10" In ported enclosure)

Oh yeah, that price includes my head unit, and some cheapie cheapo sound deadening in the doors.

Oh my turn :

Hmm $600 bills to spend huh...lets get at it:
Deck-already taken care of.
Front speakers: 5.25" or 6.5" components. Shop around (avg price $150-300)hit some small shops and major chain store...its inventory clearance time many great deals can be had. Remember this is mainly where most of your budget may go if your into great sound. Don't rule out sounddomain or ikesound..but beware many E-retailers are not authorized to sell the product..things could get dicey if service is needed. Also don't shy away from referbished gear...great price savings there.
rear speakers: You can omit or spend about $100-150 depending on sound...or what you like. Follow above advice when shopping...I got a set oF JL XR650cx's for $65 by being in the right place...they were demo models and being
replaced with a newer model. I demoed them with a cd I grabbed from my car (Holy cole) and couldn't whip out the charge fast enough . I would suggest using the JVC's 20w per channel to run these for rear fill if you go and add them.
amp Ahh the meat of the system...next to the front speakers this is the budget killer. Remember these word: @ 4 ohms RMS. You are looking for what the amp will do on a daily basis-ignore the peak rating. Very few amps will ever see that under normal circumstances. Same info is above...your on a budget..look for deals. Good wattage to look for is 40-75 watts rms per channel.
I concur with the 3 channel mode 1-2 drive front speakers and3-4 are bridged to run the sub.
sub and box here is where the fun begins: do you want to throw a 10 or 12" in a box in the hatch or go for the steathy custom look by using the spare tire well.
Its basically about the $$$ anyway. You decide.

There are so many choices to go with on this....I wish you well on your journey.

I won't go into how much I have invested into audio for my rex, about to spend more $$$...its sad really .

i recommend an alpine type-s 6.5 component set in the front doors. a good 4 ch. amp. and as for a sub a bazooka bass tube is a good option since it is easily removable, light, and comes with straps to hold it in place. i have a similar set up in my teg and im always getting compliments.

Since you're not running a sub, leave some money in your budget for sound deadening material. Throw a layer in the doors, and your front bass response will be way better.

Like Dynamat, only less of a rip: http://www.edesignaudio.com
Feel confident about buying any of your stuff from here.
