Default getting more bass without using subs

backround info: my car is a 98 civic cx hatchback, infinity kappa 6x9 rear, and no-name 6 1/2's in the doors, and kenwood cd player.

i drove my moms 94 accord ex and it has a stock tape player and i was listening to the radio and so i decided to turn up the bass ****. man did it hit pretty well. i actually liked how the bass sounded even without subs (im not really into big systems).

question is: why does the accord sound so much better than my civic? i turn the bass up on my civic and it doesnt even come close to the deepness of the bass even with a cd playing. how can i make my civic sound like the accord?

im a newbie to car audio so please give any advice.

check to see if the rear speakers are all in phase (+ to+ and - to-). if they aren't, there will be come cancellation between them. also, if it helps, try to turn the headunit's bass up. there should be a bass setting.

do those speaker baskets help?the ones where you punch a few port holes in the bottom, basically a plastic speaker box

What your probably noticing is that your Accords stocks are "boomier" and sound more bass heavy than your Infinity's. It's safe to assume that your Infinity's are putting out "tighter" bass due to the much higher stiffness and quality of the materials used in those speakers. I experinced the same phenomenon when I recently redid my sound system. I was like, "where'd the bass go?" It's still there, it just dosen't hit as low, it's just "tighter", more acurrate. I kind of figured this, that's why I got my sub. Hope this helps.
*edit You won't probably won't even come close to your moms accord without a sub(s) even after adding an amp for the 6x9's. I haven't installed my sub yet but I'll be sure to let you know. I only have one sub and the recommended sealed enclosure is roughly the size of 3-4 shoe boxes combined. It's very small. Follow up on my thread to keep posted because I'm going to be reviewing my sub and amp after the install. https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=307019

YO!
The accord has better acoustics than the civic I KNOW
i had a 97 civic hacth with pioneer 2 way 6.5/ jbl tweets up front and blaupunt 6x9 rear and a pioneer 6400,runing deck power no subs.
I sold the car and took out my entire system and put it in my new 96 accord. SAME EXACT system, but it sounds better in the accord a little bit more bass, and alot cleaner NO BS.
go figure.

[QUOTE]

They are called baffles. I think it would work esp if you put poly fill in them, but i cant find any that will actually fit inside my accord doors.

speaker position and sound deadning. I have a 93 ex and the sock speaker locations suck, the door panels block everything. You can go the expensive route and have somebody make kick panels for you, or you could try some deadning. Either way adding an amp to your system will help immensely.
