Default general Qs

i know this is gunna sound like a very n00b question, but i'm somewhat new to the audio scene. I was just wonder what to look for in some subs, as far as ohms go. I understand RMS and Peak watts, but everything else is a mystery to me. Also, how should i choose an amp, based on the subs?
thanks

i would reccommend that u go with a 2channel amp and two 8ohm subs.
ex: rockford HE 12" (pair) powered by a rockford 500s.
this way with the gain 3/4 of the way up (a safe setting for the amp) each sub will get around 200w rms which is right where the HE's wanna be.
EDIT: oh yeah if u go with a two 8ohm set up and a 2ch amp u have to parallel bridge the amp. IE: both + wires from two subs go into left positive terminal, and both - wires go in the right negative terminal. this way the subs run in a 4ohm mono load which is ideal.
