Front speaker install...HELP
Bought a set of MB Quart 6 1/2 fopr the front doors of my 2000 Si. Can't figure out how to install. They fit perfect behind the factory grill and there seems to be nobody that makes a speaker bracket for the stock locations. Any help will be great.
just make speakerbrackets out of 1/3" to 1/2" thick MDF. use the original plastic cup the speakers are mounted in as a template.
paint your DIY brackets with paint that you would use to paint a fence or something along those lines. it does get wet in the doors.
get the painting part right. i've seen moss grow on homemade speakerbrackets.
minus waiting for the paint to dry, I made and installed mine in about 1 hours. tops. only the holes for the screws have to be right, your sawing doesn't have to be perfect.

or just hack the factory basket up... that's what I did and it works fine
I'm done it for my CRX si, Integra GSR, Integra Type R, and del sol... all have the same basket... and can be modified to help fit "true" 6 1/2 speakers

That's exactly how I mounted by Quarts in the 99 Si. The magnets and basket is small on those speakers, so there is no clearance problem. If you had a different type of speaker with a bigger magnet structure, you may have some clearance problems when hacking the stock location open.

Man, what you can do, for style points, is get some carbon fiber clothe and resin, then just mix it up like you would fiber glass, put about 5 sheets together about 1 by 2 feet. Then you can just cut the hole in that for the speaker .. screw holes. You can cut CF on a bandsaw pretty simple. You can buy "covers" , i forgot what there called, for the magenet , and pretty much the entire back of the speeker, I would put one of those on. They really do a great job of keeping water/moisture out. When your done you wont have to put the factory speeker "grate/cover" back on cause you'll have some badass carbon fiber sittin there. I get all of my Carbon/teflon/aluminum through a freind who has his own airplane hanger, but Im sure you could find it in any "homedepot" store, next to the fiberglass. Hope this has helped you somewhat, or at least gave you a idea for later.
B18Jake, you have pics of what the carbon fiber grill looks like? Sounds like a killer idea. Send me some pics of you can and thanks for the info

Its not a grill that goes over the speeker, its just what the speeker is bolted to .. the "bracket". But the speeker will be sitting on Carbon ... sweet ****, and it will give that sterio kind0f a racey feeling lol.
Ever have a question about carbon fiber / fiber glass / kevlar Ask me .. B18JDMJAKE@hotmail.com Anyone add me who wants to talk about buildin **** or forming glass cloth.
