Default Free air subs

I've never had free air subs in my car before so I was wondering what is the quality of the sound. Is it comparable to subs with a box? I'm just looking at a pair of 8"s for my Crx. I don't need the mirrors to shake, just a little bit of lows. Feel free to give any inputs. Thanks.

I dunno about the CR-X, but free-airs don't work with hatchbacks.

You'll still need an isolated airspace on the other side of the sub.

Bass is muddy with this setup, don't expect anything sonically accurate below 50 Hz. Also subs in this setup can only handle about half its rated wattage. This is one situation where you don't want to overpower the drivers. The voice coils will blow.

All the free-airs i have heard sound like ***, just get 1 10" sub in a small sealed box, that would be plenty.

Kicker free-airs sounded pretty good, but with enclosure sizes dropping the way they have over the past few years, I would just go with a pair of eight inch, or ten inch subs.(JL, KICKER, INFINITY,...etc., almost all companies have small enclosure subs )

You could always use a single 10" if space is tight though.

One other suggestion is to use a single eight inch sub in a fiberglass enclosure that fits inside your spare tire( my freind built one for a 6.5 inch JL, and with 100 watts, you would think it was at least an eight!!)

This will work if the mounting depthe doesn't become a problem, and the airspace is close( I haven't figured out the air space yet. )

The eight inch free airs will be a pain in the **** because it is almost impossible to completely seperate the front and rear waves in a hatch back...You'll basically end up building an enclosure, and that defeats the purpose does it not?

Good Luck though.
