First System, wanna do it right
i have a Apline MRP-M450. it hits like 400 watts RMS @ 2 ohms. I was going to go for a 2 ohm sub like a 10in or 12in Alpine Type R, but with the Amp that i have will the Sub hit hard?
Power Handling
• Peak Power Handling: 1500 Watts
• RMS Power Handling: 500 Watts
• Power Range: 200 - 500 Watts
I would say it would bang alright, just make sure you wire the VC to the 2ohm setting, or else you'll only be putting out 200 watts and surely underpowering it. I'd recommend a sub with a little less power handling or and amp with a little more juice.

Although the amp would drive a single 10" or 12" Alpine Type R pretty good, it is underpowered by 100W, and that increases the chance that you will drive the amp into constant clipping, and damaging the sub, also it would not drive the sub to it's full potential.
I have to agree, find another sub, or find another amp.
About a month ago I used that amp to drive a JL Audio 12W6v2... http://mobile.jlaudio.com/prod..._id=4 in a sealed box, installed in a 93 teg hatch, customer had the amp and was told it was no good for what he wanted, he came to us on an unrelated electrical problem, in fixing that, I made the comment that the fuse on the amps power cable was a poor quality one and he should change it, he told me the amp was not wired because it was no good, I checked it out found it to be a working MRP-M450 and suggested he get the JL sub, he did, and got us to build the box, sub and amp, a little tuning and a cut from BASS COWS from HELL, and he was all smiles.

The Type R can handle more power than 500w and many people have reported 350w is sufficient. If after you get the subwoofer and you want to go louder, then get another amp but there's nothing wrong with the amp you have now.
Here is a thread regarding the Type R with over 2800 posts.

Yea, you could use a SWS-1243D, [DVC 4 ohm] although, IMO it is no where near as good a sub as the Type R, and the JL Audio would sound better.
Rockford Fosgate still makes a pretty good product, but not as good as it used to be, and there definitely is better stuff out there for the same price.

Any decent system (with a sub) will sound good if the sub enclosure is within manufacturer's internal volume specs. Put a nice sub in a crappy box and you will get crappy sound.
