False Floor ideas for an EG hatch
I've been thinking of doing this with mine since my amps are on my back seats, and the sub is on top of the spare tire cover. Has anyone built a false floor, fiberglass or mdf, kept their spare tire, and amps fully concealed? I want to retain the use of the minimal trunk space this car has and also be able to drop down my back seats if I need to carry bigger items. I plan on using 2 8" Rockford Fosgate Punch HX2s, since I've read that 8's are the best way to go to retain trunk space. Pics, and or nice write ups, or measurements by other members would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Im thinking of doing fiberglass but wanted to see what some members on here did with their stereo set up. And yup 8's are the way to go if you want to retain as much space as possible while keeping the spare donut.
It's all about speker depth, not size. Pioneer and a few other make 10" and "12" subs that are only a few inches deep. Those Rockfords are deep. In order to keep your spare, hide the amps and keep everything flush you're gonna have to build the floor up another 6" at minimum. I did a false floor in my EK out of MDF, I had autotek stealth amps that were designed to mount flush so those sat flush in the floor and I had a 12 in a box to the side. With your's and wanting to keep the tire defintely gonna have to build the floor alot higher.

6" min i would estimate, maybe more. When building a false floor using mdf it isn't too difficult a build, you basically building something similar to a table, 4 legs and a top. But you have to take into account that the floor also has to be a sub enclosure for the subs. The sub enclosure is he complicated part. Those speakers not only require depth but AIR space, the volume of each chamber will prolly be .66-.8 cu. ft, guesstimating. Usually with hatchbacks not a big deal because most people ditch the spare... in your case it's gonna be pretty tough. Your "floor" may end up a few inches below the top of your backseats! lol. might have to consider ditching the spare to take advantage of the available air space.
if you look in my profile under garage pics of my car there is a shot of my hatch open looking in. The floor is the first false I built to incorporate the Autotek Stealth amp that is made to mount flush, if you were to ditch your spare your floor would be about the same height maybe a few inches above depending on the enclosure on the backside. Keep the spare and a you're looking at the "floor" ending up as tall as 1/2 way to 3/4 the way up your back seat because the bottom of the sub enclosure would be an inch above the spare, figure at least 12-15 inches above that would be the top/floor depending on enclosure specs and thickness of MDF

pull off your rear side panels (next to the rear seat) .. if you really want a stealth install, you can glass the 8's in back there. then shove the amps under the rear and call it a day. or get extra fancy and mount the amps into the back of the rear seat. that will require a bit more work tho.

Subs should point toward the rear or the front of the car for the best sound. It may look clean but makes the subs sound their best above and below the car
