I have an older set of Alpine TypeR components and they have an external (adjustable) crossover.
I have a temporary setup with the crossovers mounted just off my amp in the trunk that I am going to run new wires to the doors with.
Am I going to notice having this placement over say having the crossover mounted on the door?
I have a few suspicions but i want to hear some oppinions from a SQ POV.

With the proper gauge wire you will be fine.

I'd say depends. For the average user you wont notice any difference on where its placed. For an extreme audio geek the extra wire is an additional impedence and capacitance that will minimally effect the crossover point.Originally Posted by HellaFab

If it were me I wouldn't care.

The closer to the speakers, the less wire you'll have to use. My infinity crossovers are mounted directly to my door metal (on the outside, so they aren't dripped upon.)
I usually have the crossovers mounted on the door but in a dry location. You don't want get those things wet (no pun intended).

If you put the x-overs in the trunk, you'll have to run two sets of wires to each door, as opposed to the one set needed if you put the x-overs up front.

doesn't really matter in the realm of things..just keep them safe and away from water.
Door treatments, speaker placement, and power play a much larger role in sq.

just joking you man! clearly if you mount something closer, it will use less wire. it was like saying if something is smaller it takes up less space. sounds funny, no?
