ECLIPSE (and attention, eclipse dealers)
As some of you know, some crackhead broke in and stole my headunit last November. Since then, I have been with only CB radio. As time is going along, I am working on my anti-crackhead anti-theft deals. I was just outside welding about fifteen minutes ago putting the lip on what many of us call the "false floor." Now, I need a new headunit.
My old headunit, an Eclipse cd8053, was supposedly covered by Eclipse's "ESN protection." I purchased the HU on ebay and had it installed by some eclipse certified guy in Atlanta. I did the speakers and wiring but let the guy install the HU. When I filed for a claim, I didn't have any record of where I went, so I left it blank. So lo and behold, the usurers sent me back a piece of paper with a check mark next to a "you didn't get this installed by a certified dealer, so we refuse to honor our insurance." What can I do? Can I find a dealer to just "cover" me? I would pay to have things work out. How many eclipse dealers are there in Atlanta because I couldn't find the one that I used...!
And if this doesn't work out, can anyone recommend me a better headunit manufacturer than Eclipse? Something better than the cd8053, preferrably with a detachable faceplate? Thanks a lot---Mr. Para is a little way extremely ultra-frustrated here.

well, there is a warranty thing u have to fill out. also they can track the SN# of the unit and know which dealer eclipse sold it to. eclipse has a very strict guideline with dealers.
good luck. next time, you should buy from a dealer. like me

</TD></TR></TABLE> Ditto that. I don't think ebay is an Eclipse authorized dealer, and to get the "ESN protection" the HU has to be installed at an authorized install depot, and has to be registered with Eclipse.
Next time, parasonic, support your local retail outlet. You can find it here http://www.eclipse-web.com and if you want to replace the Eclipse with a removeble face HU, how about an Alpine http://www.alpine.com
