Default Downfiring subs....

I've heard positioning your subs to fire straight down improves bass response...how does that work??

Just got a Rockford Fosgate FFS1224...DVC 12" sub....just want a good reliable box..."cheap"

Firing the sub up or down can give you a little additional bass since you are added by gravity. I personally don't think firing up or down gets you enough to stress over it.

The recommended sealed enclosure for that box is 1 cube. This is the size of the cheap prefab 12" sub boxes, and can be had for 30-50 dollars at many places. If you get one try to find one made of MDF instead of particle board. If you want a good custom box, send me a PM.

I ended up getting one from Pacific Stereo (on Sepulveda Blvd in Culver City) for $45 out the door. Just got a grille for it too. Now I have an amp wiring question. I lost my RF amp's manual and my logic. OK, the sub's DVC....4ohm each VC. I was told to wire in series.......then "bridge" the amp running it mono. Will the amp (a Rockford Fosgate 400S) see the load as 8ohm or 4ohms??

8

8 ohms bridged is the same power as the double the 4 ohm power from one channel.

So how can I make it see the load as 4ohms?? Wire in parallel?

You can't.....with a sub with dual 4 ohm coils your only options are a 2 ohm mono load or an 8 ohm mono load - neither are optimal for your amp.

Also thought of this.......can't I just wire up one of the coils and leave the other one not connected??

What he says is correct. You can get 2 or 8 ohms. I have no idea on your amp specs though. You should get 200 watts at 8 ohm bridged. The sub may still be useable.

Check to see if you can trade the sub for a dual 2 ohm version if it is available.

just slap the two coil together it wil be fine
(add a fan if u full blast 4 more than an hour)

if u want the most out of ur speaker a big ported box will be best.

put it this way in a db drag double point event in sacermento i made 150.2 dbs with 1 12" speaker
but the box is 7.4 cubics

vteg: i ended up just swapping a friend for a 12" jbl....i'm not going for competition but for personal pleasure.

tomtom: my amp can't handle the 2 or 8 ohm load (except it would supply 200watts through a parallel wiring on one channel...) I'm using a box that offers 1 cube of volume.

Hey guys, My Name is Mack and I work for Sound Waves in Memphis, Tn.
Down firing subs increases the distance from the speaker to you ear. Bass waves are so long it simply takes a long time for them to develop. If you have a (trunk) the subs are louder when faceing to the rear. In a (truck) down firing them does the same thing. Thanks Mack

I would not recommend bridging that amp into a 2 ohm load.
