door speakers
I just bought a 91 accord ex wagon. The door calls for a 5 in round speaker. I was wondering if anyone knew the mounting depth of the hole. I need to know so I won't buy speakers too deep.
oh come on
dont send him somewhere else!
dude what are you doing exactly?adding just regular speakers? Component set ?
No speakers will mount directly to your doors!especially if your adding an amp to power them....youd be grounding the speakers!
you should go with 6.5 2 ohm components set.....best upgrade!thats what I got.....I recommend....
Infinity Components,Kenwood Components,Kicker Components and if you got money MB components
you can use the same OEM speaker mounts and cut them so the speakers can fit or buy some round speaker mounts to add extra gap between the speaker and the door!
I will take a picture of my set up in a minute and show you what I did!

The 91-93 Honda Accord EX/SE wagon came with 5.25" in the front and 6x9s in the rear, the 91-93 Honda Accord wagon came with 6.5" and 6x9s.
Both the 5.25" and the standard 6.5" speaker will fit the doors stock plastic speaker housing, both the 5.25" 4hole and the 6.5" 3hole mounting screw locations are in the housing, mounting depth is 2", a hole for the magnet can be cut in the back of the housing for an extra .5"-.75" of mounting depth, [extra depth depends on car], there is also .5"-.75" of extra "height", a MDF depth reducer ring, [spacer] can be used so up to a standard 6.5" speaker with a 3" mounting depth can easily be installed.
Eclipse and Pioneer make direct fit speakers, [no mods] Infinity also makes speakers that fit with the use of the supplied adapter ring, no other mods needed.

Blue is the 1 inch round mounts that I bought for $5 a pair at local Car Electronics
Red is the 1\4 inch speaker mount that came with my speakers
Green is a pair of 6.5 Kicker Components New $35 Downtown
Thats what I got on my door and there is no problem!
Window goes all the way down.......The door trim goes back on with no problem!

Gee, I don't want to jump to conclusions, but that looks more like a Kicker coax then Kicker components, and I would put money on that mount not being airtight.
If you think that an improperly mounted $35 coax is a good thing, you need to up your standards a notch or two.

Yep. Most door speakers are infinite baffle. But you still need to separate the front and rear of the speaker with an airtight seal. Components are a separate tweeter. not one mounted on the speaker thats a coax/two way as fcm stated.

oh youre right it is a coax kicker my bad!
I have a set of Infinty's and those are components....I was thinkin of those the whole time!
the mount has a foam under it so its pretty tight......then the 1\4 grille sits flat tight to the speaker grille and the mount! theres no play or wabble its tight!
you know its a pretty difficult battle to mount it properly!
I undersatnd it has to be Air Tight both front and back....But thats something almost impossible in the front unless you completly modify the door trim speaker grille!
I think they are ok with stock sound! but hey dude if you have a better idea then post it and help the guy!

Well he didn't ask what would be the [B][best/B] way to mount speakers into the doors, but I am pretty sure I covered any questions he had...

No, you do not short out a speaker if you mount it directly to the door skin, a speaker terminal or tinsel leads would have to touch metal for there to be a short.
Why would you need to " completly modify " the door panel, [trim] grill, it has absolutely nothing to do with sealing the speaker to it's baffle, all you need is an airtight seal between the front and back of speaker for the diameter of the speaker, [6.5"] from the edge of the speaker, not that hard to do, although it is impossible to get it airtight, a sheet of Dynamat, or the like, will turn a door into a pretty good cabinet, again the "air tightness" is only critical within 6.5" of the speakers edge, anything better is just gravy.

Yea the stock speaker mount would of been perfect....but I dont have them......I also mentioned the original mounts and about cutting them....but even the original mounts arent exactly super tight and theres a small gap because of the plastic screw fittings!
I used the 1\4 speaker mounts because the 1 inch mount werent enough......The window would slightly hit the magnet......thats why I added the extra piece!
you should post a picture or more detail for the guy that made the post not me!

LOL. You know, I was actually surprised by the Kicker DS coaxes when I first heard them running off of 50 rms (25 each). Definitely one of the best cheaper coaxes out there right now.
With that being said, he could have cut some MDF baffles and gotten a better seal than that hodgepodge in the pic. I did my share of janky work when I was younger, but damn.

instead of helping the guy from the post you guys are attacking me!
I picked that speaker cause it sounded good as highs for stock sound!
I have a set of infinity's kappa green cone components and these are great speakers for an AMP! These are mounted on the back for a better fit!
Under the 1 inch mount theres foam and its sitting pretty flat! The 1\4 mounts is sitting flat between the 1 inch mount and the speaker! NO FREAKING AIR GAPS OR VIBRATION!!!
this is a good set-up for stock sound! $40 bucks spent!!
I understand that theres better stuff out there for a better set-up! I dont think everyone want to buy and spend $100+ on speakers and equipment unless your going beyond entry level!
If your set-up is better then mine TAKE A PICTURE AND POST IT INSTEAD OF BEING NEGATIVE !! if you dont your just a barking dog!!
kidding

I didn't mean to attack you personally, I was merely trying to say that it's not a good idea to have multiple mounting surfaces underneath a speaker. It opens up a lot of room for air to leak and or vibration. You made a good choice on the Kicker ds speakers, excellent stock replacement.
