do alarms prevent push starting?
So I was about to purchase the new viper 5901 and the shop didnt wanna go into the ignition and do the remote start. So he tries to sell me on installing it minus the remote start.I asked him what else wouldnt work out of all the features and he didnt have a clue. he said that it would be able to be push started, since he wouldnt go through the ignition.
so my question is.. do normal alarms prevent push starting?

No.
You have to kill the source that supply power to the components or disable each component so the vehicle or motor can not run even if you are push starting it.

i took an alpine alarm off a car a few months ago that had a feature to disable the distributor, so in a case such as that, yes, but generally most alarms that disable ignition is generally a controlled relay in which you splice into the yellow or white ignition wire to do so. Push starting the car basically eliminates the need of power to the starter in order to do so, its all mechanical..
Any alarm can be wired to prevent "push starting" even the 5901 without remote start wired up.
Keep in mind a crook will want to disable the alarm before trying to start the car, either by "push starting" or hot wiring, the crook is not going to try and drive the car with the alarm going off, siren blaring lights flashing, and is disabling the alarm the crook would also disable any starter/ign. "kills" or any other disabling relay controled by the alarm, [with the exception of normally open relays that some alarms have as an option for the starter kill, but that would not prevent "push starting"].
The best way to protect against car theft is a properly installed alarm with added layers of security, the best layer you can add is one or more manual kill switches, circuit disabling switches not controled by the alarm. 94

So the installer is going to install a alarm and not put any kill switches on it? Whats the point of the alarm then, lol. Did you add any accesories to the alarm like back up battery or mini siren to it? Time to either do a diy or go to a diffrent shop.

I remember some liability issues with that as well, something about the alarm went off while the car was running so it basically shut down right there.
I've considered this issue before. Hopefully this shouldn't be a problem with a well-made alarm, but I suppose it could happen. I in all honesty do have my alarm's ground-when-armed output killing off something vital for the car to run, but I'm willing to take the off-chance that DEI screws up in my own daily driver. I'm a little more modest when I install other peoples' alarms.

If the car has a starter kill or remote start. It will not shut off under its own power with the key on and running. Unless the alarm had a short with the ground while armed wire and that kill a circuit in the car thats needed to run the engine.
