differences between alpine 7894 and 9813 HUs?
anyone bought from a place called http://www.sbhcorp.com ?
I'm in the market for an Alpine too, but I don't want one with an internal amp.
Would the Alpine CDA-7894 be a nice choice for OE placement speakers (will be upgraded later) w/o amps or subz?
What kind of wextra wiring would I need to install?
Would it have to hook up to the battery?
I want something cheap (~$300 or so) and then get speakers to match later.

Someone tell me to go ahead and get the 7894.

Does the CDA-9813 have the Amber display like the CDA-7894? I can't find out for sure but everyone says that the CDA-9813 is the newer model of the 7894 so I thought that it has to have Amber display also...thanks!
The CDA9813 does not have an externally mounted DC/DC converter like the CDA7894 did. The amber illumination is gone.
The CDA7875 was a 2001 model priced at $399 msrp. It was pretty much replaced by the CDA7893 (the silver, blue lighted 4V preout for the sub, non mp3 playback model below the '94), except it did not have time correction.

I just installed a 9813 in my Teg last week, and yes the amber illumination is gone. Definitely pick up the 9813, there's a world of a difference as far as sound goes. That EQ definitely makes a difference. And I haven't even tweaked the thing yet. I noticed the bass definitely hits harder. I give Bass Engine Pro

Check the manual. I doubt that you can add more bass to the rear speakers without adding to the front. What frequency are your speakers set at? You might want to set them at 80hz and get a sub.

It's a great radio, but yes it is a little tricky to tweak. I still haven't figured it out yet. What ever happened to those EQ's with those slide thingies on the front?
I set the time correction using the i-personalize section on the Alpine website. Then I just dialed in the figures given by the site. I'm kinda clueless about the crossover adjustments though. Can anyone here explain exactly how this works in simple English??

hey guys! I went to the store to buy the CDA-9813 but I ended up coming out with the CDA-9815...I had the have the 9815 display and it wasn't that much more expensive! HEH btw, the mp3 searching tool is amazing, its really quick!
anyways, I'm going to install it tommorow and I just wanted to know how you guys wired the yellow cable to the battery?
I bought some 10 guage wire at the store, do i just connect that to the yellow wire and bolt it onto the battery + terminal? If i'm using the 20A fuse box that alpine supplied will I need to hookup another fuse holder on my 10 guage wire? or will i be ok?
also, whats the safest way to connect that 16 guage wire to the 10 guage wire? the 10 guage wire is pretty thick!
thanks for your help!

The 9815's display is sweet. My first radio (CDA-7894) was connected using a Metra harness, so it was hooked up to that tiny wire under the dash (which Alpine says not to do) I didn't know about this because I had someone else install it. I ended up swapping the radio out for the 9813 and hardwired the Alpine harness the same way. I called Alpine before doing this and they said that since everything was running through the RCA's (connected to a 5 channel Alpine amp) I didn't really need all that power going to the HU. Basically, if you're running your speakers directly out of the HU, then wire it directly to the battery.
I'm not really sure if you'd need to hook up another fuse on the 10 guage wire, but the way I see it, it wouldn't hurt.

Here's some info I found on Crutchfield's website:
Wiring Note: While providing high power output, this unit can draw a substantial amount of current. Per Alpine, this receiver's constant power wire must be connected directly to the positive terminal of the battery in your vehicle, and 10-gauge wire must be used to make the connection. This requires a length of 10-gauge power cable, an in-line fuse holder with a 20- to 30-amp fuse and a ring terminal (the ring terminal is used to connect the cable to the battery clamp). Although all the pieces of a basic amplifier wiring kit will not be not needed, if you do not wish to assemble the required items separately, the power wire and in-line fuse holder from a basic 10-gauge kit can be used to connect the constant power wire to your vehicle's battery. For a secure, permanent connection, the 10-gauge cable must be soldered to this receiver's 16-gauge constant power wire.
I hope that answers your questions. I will be getting my 9815 sometime next week. I sold my 7876 for it (because I need MP3 playback). Plus, it wasn't that much more expensive than the 9813. I can't wait.
