Default deck smoked?

ok so i checked and hooked up the constant and the switched, and the ground correctly. then i reconnected the battery and turned the key just to check out the deck, to my suprise it started to smoke(not very much), so i turned it off really quick. I went back and checked my wiring and its all correct.
after examining the diagram on the new deck it says there should be a filter between the stock ground wire and the deck ground wire somewhere. could this be the reason is smoked.

oh ya it also says this on the deck "CAUTION: 12V NEGATIVE GROUND"

can anyone explain this too me? any reasons or what?

Modified by shivern at 5:43 PM 1/1/2005</TD></TR></TABLE> What kind of "deck" is it? I don't know why you would need a "filter" on the ground wire, and all HU, "decks" will say 12v neg. ground, if they are for cars that are 12v and the batt. neg. is grounded, there are,or were 12v pos. grounded cars and there are 24v cars.

I would recheck the wiring, pay attention to the speaker wiring, and if you seen smoke come out of your HU its not a good thing, damage has already been done 94

Very dumb mistake, i figured the all black wire in the stock wiring harness would be the ground, never going to make that mistake again. deck still works tho =/ although kinda sketchy at times
