Default Deck fried? Please help fast!

ok, basically in a nut shell the guy whom i just recently bought my car from, is a dumb ****.
for some reason the dash wire harness is either all cut up or fried.

anyways, to make a long story short, me and a friend decided to hook up a new deck and speakers today, as no music since i've owned the car has been getting to me...
and with the cut up harness, and no replacement, we just hardwired the deck to the battery (power/ground)

anyways, its a fosgate deck, and we tested it after it was done, and it worked fine. put out sound perfectly. we hooked up a rocker switch to kill it, as it stayed on with the hardwiring.

so we went to test it after installing the rocker switch...keep in mind please only the front speakers are installed at this time, and it played music for about 2 seconds then the sound just quit. later in the night we discovered a fuse was blown, and that the rear left speaker wires were dangling and crossed each other. we tested the deck for current flow, and nothin, its done. it turns on but will not put out sound.

now, sorry for reading ALL that... but my question:
can the rear speaker wires crossing cause the deck to fry like that? and blow the fuse? we dont think we made a mistake anywhere else or crossed any wires, we suspect those 2 wires crossed on the drive to my buddys house...
any ideas? all help is MUCH appreciated, thanks!
please reply asap!

Most aftermarket decks have circuitry built into them to shut down if the speaker wires cross or ground out. Most cases it shouldnt fry the deck. I would dissconnect all speaker output wires, then unplug the power and plug it back in to let the deck reset. Then test the speaker output from the deck with a uninstalled speaker you have laying around. If you get sound that way it means one of the spaekers you have connected is either blown or is grounding out. If no sound the internal amp inside is probably fried. Usually when this happens the RCA outputs still work, in which case I would just connect a four channel amp. Oh and BTW connect the red wire on the back of the deck to the ignition wire at the steering coulmn and fuse it. The whole switch thing is kinda ghetto.

that sounds like it would work, but the wierd thing is that, the deck actually turns on, but it wont put out sound, and when we turn it on and put a meter to it its not puttin out any juice

same thing happened to me when i got my rear speakers installed, the shop "sliced" one of the wires in the rear deck, exposing bare wires, when it would contact the metal on the back deck, it would shut off my rear speakers,(protection mode) once i covered it up it worked fine, so try re hooking it up with no shorts(bare wire touching metal) and it should do the trick. Worked for me
