Clif Designs amplifiers
Does anyone have any info on them? Seems their website is down, and google shows nothing except retailers. Just wondering about SQ, power, high-end or mid-grade or if anyone has had experience with them. I'm looking at one of their 2-channel amps for my front stage. CD5.2LX
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.
well ebay auction ends in 20 mins for it, its at a good price, I'm going to bite the bullet and buy it and try it. if it works well, hey, i got a good amp for cheap.
And car audio is like a drug to me, i'm going to want to upgrade 6 months after i buy this...if not sooner.

Well its the same company ma audio. Or I should say the anaba group. I seen there products there while picking up products. The amps look like there okay. I never tried them thou. Looking thru there price guide they seem to be entry level now. I guess I am dealer thru anaba it seems. The speakers do look weak.
I got the CD5.2LX for $90 plus shipping, 116 total. It had decent specs for what I need currently (200W x2 at 4ohms) and it looks pretty nice to boot; i am goign to likely upgrade soon if it doesn't fit my overall needs. And then I can use it for a small side project in my sister's car if need be.
I know the MA Audio really likes 14 volts, I have that to my current setup so hopefully this amp will do well.
I was looking at Clif Desings' component setups, the crossover designs look similar to the Elemental Designs 6500, but I'm not sure what eDesign uses though I know they are rebadged (last I heard was from CDT Audio and I read that CDT Audio was a derivative from the original Clif Designs).
I'll update this post with how the amp sounds etc once I get it in, both with my current CDT components (CL-61a) and my newer HD-6/DRT-26/ES-200z setup, plus a boat load of deadening in the front doors. If this is truly entry-level, I'd say its at least value entry level and some grade higher than your common sony, kenwood, pioneer, 'best buy' or 'circuit city' amps. But I would say it looks like it is a grade below PPI, JL Audio, Diamond Audio, US Amp, etc.
Here are the specs for it:
* 1200 Watt 2 Channel Amplifier
* 2 x 200 Watts RMS @ 4ohms
* 2 x 250 Watts RMS @ 2ohms
* 2 x 300 Watts RMS @ 1ohm
* 1 x 1200 Watts MAX @ 2ohms
* 2 Ohm Mono Stable
* Double-sided Military Grade PCB Board
* Regulated Power Supply
* Soft Start Circuitry
* Full MOSFET Circuitry
* 4-Way Short Circuit Protection
* Variable Frequency LPF 40Hz-120Hz
* Variable Frequency HPF 120Hz-800Hz
* Variable Bass Boost 0dB to 18dB
* Frequency Response: +/- 1dB 10Hz-40kHz
* 0.02% T.H.D.
* S/N Radio > 100dB
* Channel Separation 70dB
* Silver Plated RCA Input/Output Connectors
* Damping Factor 200
* 4 Gauge Silver Power Connectors
* Dimensions: (LWH) 15.7" x 10" x 2.1"

I cant speak on there amplifiers but I am going to guess you will be pleased. I think these are seriously under valued. Pop the top and post some pics once you get it and I can tell you ya or nay on build quality and if it will produce its rated output.
I have purchases a few of there component speakers and they are really well made product. They sounded much better then some components costing 3x as much.

I dont know anything about these models but from looking at the 3.2 I would guess its a 150w amp. Class AB design fairly well made.
The 20A I think the specs might be a little overrated I would guess about 2kw would be reasonable.
The 4800 is hard to tell because I cant tell where everything is at. From the looks it only has 12 power supply transistors which is fairly week for an amp claiming those power levels. The 20A looks to have a stronger power supply.
*edit* looking at the 4800 layout it looks to be a class D which would require less supply transistors because of of the improved efficiency. The audio amplifier portion looks to have the needed transistor count.
This is only a visual inspection but I stand by my statement I think this brand is seriously undervalued.

http://ampguts.realmofexcursio...3.2LX/ you're right its a 2x150w into 4 ohms amp for the CD3.2LX

300w may be a little stretch. I'm thinking 75x2 or 100x2 max.
Sounds like they may over rate some. 150w I think might be a stretch for that amp.

Once I get the amp in, I'll take pictures of the guts.
It looks like the CD3.2LX has quite a bit smaller circuit board than its case, though this may have something to do with heatsink mass.

In this case the heatsink is much larger then it neads to be.
