I could of told you this. I went thru the first change over about 3-4 years ago. I was making more then the store manger on holidays, lol. I was offered to take a pay cut or take a severance and walk. Thought about how much money they were making off me. All the custom stuff I built and did not receive a portion. Let alone a thank you. Going to diffrent stores to pick up parts and cover for other managers that could not show up. Then they said I would have to pay for gas in stead of clocking in and getting paid to drive all over running for diffrent stores. I took my check and bounced. Started my own company. And I been like curtis s.s.k. aka 50 cent. I been laughing straight to the bank.
our S&I is gone at the end of the month but he has been offered the technology manager position, which leaves me and the assistant manager in the bay to run ****. I already make schedules and deal with vendors and customer issues.
I'm glad I got out when I did, right before **** hit the fan. Now all the guys that trained me are gone. Those guys can't be replaced easily. 5+ years experience + good work ethic + pride in their work. Everyone is having a hard time finding good installers. CC just threw away a great resource. The guy left working at my previous store was trained by me, and I wasn't anywhere near finished training him. Now he's my competition.
Despite all the negative crap I heard about BB, I actually like working here for the time being. They let me do things my way. Pay is better than what I got with CC even with max bonus. Employee discount is the bomb. CC discount was a joke. And they treated you with suspicion. Now I'm hoping CC will go out of business so we can start charging for deck installs. They deserve it for dropping their problems on their employees, the foundation of their business.

i must admit... my work atmosphere was great. i came into the biz knowing nothing.. and after a year of me pushing my self really hard.. i can do almost any install. the installers are great.. we're all a family. we lost one person due to the layoff thing... and now another. it's hard seeing family go. i may go check out bestbuy. i'm not scared of losing my job... but the pay is crap. let's hope it gets better for CC

Thats the right mind to have, learn all that you can. Learn about all the items that you sell. And if you can. Meet all the reps for the mercandise that you sell. This will pay off later if you open up your own business. It worked for me. Also try to get as high as you can go with cc and then bounce. This will make it easier to get a loan later. If you can see if you can use the customers that you build custom cars for as ref's. I don't see cc getting any better. Its been like this since you started and is not going to go up anytime soon

My whole take on this, sorta/kinda related, but CC and BB are competitors. GG and Compusa got 'weeded' out. But with the advent of many home improvement stores like lowes and home depot bringing appliances onboard, CC and BB have this area to deal with, but BB has a bit more of a hold in teh appliance area than CC does. from a business standpoint, competition keeps you in business, but you can only take it so far before trends take over. In the next 5 years, i'm sure we'll all see huge changes in the way the consumer electronics retailers run their business, and how they keep and seek new customers, not only that but how they intend to keep those customers loyal. And of course you have the work force behind the company; reduction and downsizing seem to be the 'hot ticket word' nowadays. Change is good and bad. Internet [commerce] opens new opportunities, but at the same time seems to close just as many.
sorry if this doesn't make sense, i've had a gew brewskies tonight.

^^^^^^ yes you are. What do you think what happened when the asst manager at cc were cut short. I been there when they did this. This is why I left pay cut and a bunch of bull$hit. Do yourself a favor and trust nobody in managment at cc. There all two faced scum. Look you right in the face and blow smoke up your bung hole and tell you there not. I remember My dm telling me that things will get better, our numbers are good, we just made bonus, look at how good we are doing, I need you to take a paycut, how was your vaction, lets try to push more psp's. Two weeks later he was looking for a job himself.
yeah so i just found out that they are letting all s&i managers go on may 16 and mine is going over to technology. im already feeling the pain my store director is riding my *** to get everything done
sucks horribly man.... we're getting more and more like bestbuy. i'm still waiting on my postponed raise too... supposedly postponed cause of the 3500 people layoff they did not too long ago.
just got in to work. i hear the store manager is meeting with corporate today. i havent heard anything about a bonus rumor. if they get rid of that then definately underpaid. if i may ask what are you guys averaging as installers? im a couple bucks under the cap.. and i know im worth more than the cap
i'm making crap... mostly because in one year i've achieved a lot more than some people who have been around for 3+yrs. that every 6 month raise aint workin for me. i'm getting 9.85... looking for 10.5+.. btw i'm in florida. i kno the cap is different in diff states
"we're getting more and more like bestbuy."
How so? Thing is that when I was working at CC, I was told all kinds of nonsense that wasn't true about BB. Now I wish I had left sooner. Although there are some things I hate about BB, since they're booming it's a good place to be right now.
Maybe WRX-killer will give me a job...
After one year of experience at CC I was making $11. It took me two raises to get there. I took my Basic MECP and went over to BB. They hired me on for $14. Now I passed my Advanced MECP and I'm waiting to hear whether I'll get a raise or not. I'm really hoping for over a dollar increase. This is all in so CAl. Yeah rent here is ridiculous.
Familiarize yourself with alarms and bypassing factory amps. Get your Basic MECP on your own. They're having a hard time finding people that know the job and those are some things that will impress them. Ask for a couple of bucks over what you expect to get, but make sure they know you really want the job. I was trying to not seem too eager. I ended up doing 4 interviews because they weren't sure if I really wanted the job!
Even if you plan on staying with CC, you should always make yourself desirable to the competition.

yea i do alarms, remote starts,4ch amp, amp sub, amp bypass, overhead, radio... basically everything we sell. only thing i haven't done yet is window mod's. but i've done actuators and what not. i might check out best buy.. i ordered my basic mecp book and i just gotta get to reading it. bb won't hire you without mecp?
yes best buy will hire you without mecp. but they require you to take their on test before working on cars.(even though they still let you work on cars before taking the test) also suspended i hope you get your raise, basic mecp senior install pay scale maxes at $17, 1st class mecp pay scale goes into the 20's per hour. anyway i hope you enjoy bby, i do.
Damn. My S&I and Tech managers might be gone on Tuesday. Bay Area store directors are meeting up Tuesday to discuss how it's going to be handled. It seems stores will have, director, ops, sales and services managers as opposed to the multiple sales now overseeing their respective services. I'm at a higher traffic store(Daly City), and I think doing this is BS. Everyone of our departments pulls almost twice as much as the two nearest stores(SF and San Mateo).
We lost out on Stonestown, they laid of most of the associates who knew how to do their jobs, and did them exceptionally well only to replace them with stupid teens(ironic since i'm the youngest in the store at 19, but i've been here for almost three years), and now they're subsidizing management. I need to look for another job :\
