cd changer power
i have a sony cd changer and a 96 accord. it requires a red and yellow power cables to be connected to the power terminal. the red one is powered at all times and the yellow is powered when the ignition is in the accessory option. does anyone know what that means? sony doesnt want to help me and best buy said they dont install them for some reason.
Where do you need help, in the install?
Yellow: Contant source of 12v for memory and main power.
Red: Power to switch on from accessories (mostly) or ignition 12v.
Black: Good ground.
Some Sony's have a RCA cable for audio -> goes to the FM modulator provided or to the Aux. input of your HU.
FM modulator, taps into the antenna connection behind the HU. Some vehicles require antenna adaptor to go back and forward. Your car doesn't need them.
The rest of the wiring is Remote Control Display which is a small cable that goes to the indicated connection in the system.
Most people install the CD changer in the trunk or, if there is room, under a seat.
Remote Control Display attaches to the dash or center console for most convenient location.

the placement of the other stuff isnt the problem. its the power wire's connection. the 2 wires are connected somewhere in the car. is that somewhere on the battery. behind the deck or maybe under the steering wheel somewhere?
There are three possibilities they hooked it up.
1) Behind the radio at the radio harness.
2) Under the steering column, at the switch main harness.
3) At the fuse box.
Some installers take the extra work to run the memory wire (Yellow) to the battery, but for a CD changer, this is not nescessary.

In any vehicle, you can find these wires by using a test light if you don't have the color code. Just be careful where you poke. You can get all the wires you need from behind the radio at the harness. For the ground, you can use the radio ground or just a self tapping screw to metal chasis. By doing like this, you just have to work in one single area; behind the radio.
