I agree with MS being rough, however in a carpc it runs good, due to the lack of multitasking. I rarely have an issue on our pc's, if so, it only requires a reboot.
If anybodies listening, do NOT get the Lilliput monitor...their quality does not compare to Xenarc. (I won't bother with them)
Apple?, unfortunately most quality (not DeLorme) navigation programs need to run on Windows and aren't Apple compatible (yet)
Well under a $1000.00? I should say not, a good power supply (w/startup/shutdown controller) will cost around $100, plus wiring, keyboard etc...around $1000.00 for a system that will be compatible with......almost nothing. Thats why "no one does it".
Note: I use the word quality alot...why? You can go the cheap route, and you'll find you'll want it better...been there, done that. I would recommend not to cut costs, and do it right the first time, or you end up paying more than you need to.
This Apple idea works (barely), but that's about it.

Okay, even with your changes, your still near a grand. Compatible with almost nothing? Compatible with enough to make it function? What do you need it to do? Just because there are a bunch of different programs to do the same thing, doesn't make it any better. I can do all of the things you described in your first post with a mac mini, no problem. A bit harder to find, but I almost did this in my e30, so I have done the research, and have found it. My only problem was that I prefer Sirius over XM, but found an interface for either for the mini. PC's are tweaky pieces of ****. Period. I have NEVER, repeat NEVER had a good experience with a PC. Yeah, there is a lot more **** for them, but that is just it, ****. Think of it as a civic. Lots of **** available for it, but thats just it, ****. IMHO, of course.

As far as the lilliput goes, you are probably right about the xenarc being better. Although I have not had them side by side to tell you if you are correct, have you? Just wondering.

You use **** parts, you get ****. PC's are as stable as you build them to be, don't go cheap and you won't have to worry.

I have not had the Lili and Xenarc side by side. However my first monitor was a Lilliput (thought it was pretty bad) then bought the Xenarc 700TSV. what a difference! Honestly, I don't say the because I sell them, no matter where you get it, get the Xenarc.
No, not "side by side", but one right after the other. The touchscreen is more responsive and lacks the problems I had with the Lilliput.

"Don't go cheap and you won't have to worry" is a very true statement...you get what you pay for. Sure, you can do it with an Apple, but will it work as desired?
"compatible enough to make it function"?. What happens when one decides they want more? ie: upgrades? Crap, guess I now need to buy a pc (after-all)

What Nav. software did you use with that Apple?
