Default capacitor

i have a performance tek 1200 amp pushing a fosgate t1 12" dual 4ohms with a 1.5farad capacitor and after having my music on for a while my amp turns off

i need your opinions...should i get a bigger cap like 10farad or get an yellow top optima battery?...my friend said i should get a bigger cap

To start, i'd say go with both. But i've heard a lot of bad things about those optima batteries and if you are changing batteries lok at the amount of c.c.a (cold crank amps) with a system its better to shoot for over 600 cca

if you go on the12volt

they all say caps are useless... and are a bandaid to a bigger problem.

The first step you should have taken is upgraded the big 3.

this includes your battery's chassis ground wire, the wire from the battery + to the alternator, and the alternator's chassis ground.

this will significantly reduce the resistance in your electrical system...

with the right wire sizes you don't need a cap.

you may need a higher output alternator, but that really depends on the system that you are running..

in total how many watts is the system pushing... i'm not too familiar with what the stock alternator in good condition can push... after upgrading the big three...

also what wire size are you running from your battery to the amps?

all a cap does is compensate for the resistance to the battery... so if you upgrade the wires, you reduce the resistance... thus there is no need for a cap.

Make and model of car?
Make and model of amp?
What impedance you're running the sub at? 2ohm or 8ohm?
What gauge wire are you using for your power and ground?
Where is your amp grounded?

That should be a pretty good start

A bigger Cap will not help. If you are going to upgrade the battery(which is a good idea) take a look at Kinetik HC1400 Power Cell
Most powerful cells for Honda or Mitsubishi OE replacement. Thin profile fits many cars. Provides serious current for any demands. Do the Big 3 and upgrade your alternator for optimal results
