can i run this sub with this amp???
yeah i got a kicker kx1200.1 and was wondering if i can run the jl audio w7 either the 12 or the 13.5.. and if it can run with this amp anyone have any idea how it will sound???
Here is the recommended power chart for JL subs http://mobile.jlaudio.com/prod...id=35
And here are the specks for the amp http://www.kicker.com/05/tech-...f.pdf
Don't forget the W7 12" has a single 3 ohm VC and the W7 13" is a DVC 1.5 ohm, and optimum power for the 12" is about 750W and for the 13" its about 1000W the Kicker amp is rated at 300W into 4 ohms
600W into 2 ohms
1200W into 1 ohm at 14.4V
and
215W into 4 ohms
525W into 2 ohms
1050W into 1 ohm at 12.5V
Not enough power to properly run the 12", well under the 750W into 3 ohms needed and would just make the min. 400W needed.
With the 13", if VCs wired in series, [3 ohms] way under the 1000W and if wired in parallel, [.75 ohms] the power would be there, but the load would be below the 1 ohm min. for the amp, and overheating will be a problem.
If I was going to recommend anything I would go with the W7 13" wire the VCs in parallel. [.75 ohms] and take extra care in installing the amp, [lots of air around it, above, below and around it] proper power cable and connections.
As for how it will sound, that will depend on a lot of things, starting with the sub cabinet, [the type of cabinet and how its constructed and mounted] the amp, [how it's installed and wired] and tuning.
You will also need to think about a bigger alt., [peak draw at 1000 watts is over 150A] your stock alt. will not keep up, I would also recommend a good batt. and cap/caps for the amp, [1-2 farads].
All the above said, if done properly it should sound good and be loud as hell.
One more thing, I hope weight is not a problem for you, the sub is 52 lb. a proper box will be well over 50 lb. not sure about the amp wiring and caps, but would not be surprised if you hit 200 lb. with everything.
