You can get a blinking LED:

http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...ductId=2062553

Here is what I like & recommend:

(Just make sure to hide the battery pack)

For this type will it handle the 12volt to ground im planning on getting this and wire it to power all the time.

i did it before with this type and the 12v shorted it directly.

what resistor can i use to handle the 12v bat. pos.

I have used the other link to Radio Shack I gave for the 2 AA *hidden* battery pack bright red flashing LED & it works great...in the meantime before a real alarm (hopefully the scare tactic works & they do not try)

Check www.google.com for blinking led ...much info on all kinds, types & ways to install

Here is a good example of installing a red blinking led in a car:

*Hope this helps. Search engines are the best way to find info when lost

Thanks, but how long did it last with the 2 AA *hidden* battery powered one?

About 3 months..just use good quality AA batts (Duracell or Energizer)

It is draws very low current & is very bright, so it takes a while to go completely down

You can run a relay so that it only turns on when the car is off, and that will increase your battery life.

OP: You need to get the blinking LED. The one you showed in your picture is a standard LED. You can make these blink but you need to do some electronics work.

What do i need to do if i want this particular one to blink
and what would be a good resistor that can cut power in half, i want to connect it directly to my car 12V B+ on all the time.

If you are referring to this.. http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...ductId=2062571.. (which I think you are because I was referring to it when you quoted me).. it already has a on/off switch

That one has a built in resistor. I doubt you will need another one. However, you can calculate it for sure using this:
http://www.hebeiltd.com.cn/?p=zz.led...tor.calculator
The whole purpose of the resistor is to limit the current flowing into the LED, too much current will pop it.
If all else fails, I usually go with the trusty 1k. If it's too dim, then I will decrease the resistance slowly until I find a good one.

you dont. it will cost you the same or probably more in parts and be way harder to make a non blinking LED blink. just go to radioshack and buy a blinking LED. use a resister to drop the voltage to what you need (the LED will say how much voltage it can handle) use the link posted above to calculate the resistor you need. you have gotten all of the info you need.

if it still sounds too hard for you paypal me $25 i'll go buy the LED and figure out the resistor, solder it together for you and all you have to do is hook it to the battery. for $35 i'll throw an inline in there too so that you dont burn your car down.
