autostart for a 5speed?
Anybody have one? I think their illegal but I've seen some standard cars with it.
And if you do, do you have a wiring diagram for it?
Thanks.
And what extra components are needed? ie to bypass the clutch etc.. and where can you get it?

they are not illegal just a huge potential for disaster, that is why most shops wont take on the liability. you are responsible for the damages and injuries that you cause when you leave your car in gear "on accident". i have a remote start on my manual car but i leave the car running before i take my keys out of the ignition, and will only remote start my car when i can see it. i also have tested to make sure my parking brake will hold my car. i am not telling you not to put a remote start on your car, but to think twice before doing it, and there are some companies that offer manual transmission safety features.

There are....I REPEAT....there are remote starters DESIGNED to start manual transmission vehicles safely. Just do a search. I see this question pop up a lot....I used to always reply and EXPLAIN how the system works, but now it should come up in a search.
There should be a recent thread about this.

Ive got one on my car, but i only use it when i can see my car to make sure its not in gear. I always used to park with my car in gear so when i first got it i hit the remote with it in gear a couple times and it makes you wanna cry seein it try and jump forward like that
, I only use it in the mornings when its really damn cold, like this morning when it was 11 below.

i believe all remote start systems are illegal. i had a cop harass me at a gas station. you cannot leave your car running and unattended. at least thats what i was told, again im not sure but this is what i gathered from my 10 minute lecture about homelss people stealing cars that are left running and unattended.
How do they sense when the car is in gear?

They are illegal in some states - also a lot of places will not install this for you as it ups their liability. Its just like walking in to a service station and asking to have your airbags deactivated. They won't do it.
The DEI remote starters have a "takeover" mode where you can exit the car running and arm the alarm. If someone tried to drive off the alarm would shut off the engine as soon as they hit the brake (which in an automatic means it can't be shifted out of park.)
Either they are hard headed like you say or ignorant and dont understand how remote starters work.
1st off, when a car is running by the remote start, there are no keys in the ignition. So the steering wheel is LOCKED.
2nd, most if not all cars on the road today need the BRAKE to be depressed to get it out of gear. If the BRAKE is pressed WITHOUT the key in the ignition turned on, the remote start will turn off the engine.
So how could homeless theives steal your remotely started car.
Anyone that owns a remote start would understand how this works.
I believe many people on here comment about stuff that they dont own or COMPLETELY understand.
I'm not slamming anyone in anyway. Im just saying you need to get your facts straight before you put it in writing, otherwise it will mislead and mis-inform others who want to know how it works.

I hear what you're saying but it's not hard to see how a cop wouldn't believe or understand you. Of course you could demonstrate to them that the car can't be driven off. Disarm the alarm, exit the car and show them how the engine shuts off when the brake is depressed.
I have one you just have to bypass the clutch and if you get one just put it in neutral when you leave the car how hard is that???.....iv had a couple of situations that my dad or somebody was driving my car and they left it in first gear and it just jumps forward (the brakes stops it) either way it shouldnt be a problem and its NOT illegal

You may not think its ILLEGAL now, but until then, when there is an incident where your car injured or smote someone, then your BUTT is on the line. Or your installers BUTT, because a remote starter that was NOT designed for a manual transmission was installed.
That's why you always see warnings on the manuals......"This remote start system is designed for AUTOMATIC transmissions only."
Now the manufactuer is in the clear. If you decide to put that one in a stick shift car......you now hold the responsibilities for lawsuits and blame if something happens.
I will be the first to admit.....I HAD a starter not designed for manuals in my cars years before. I never did it for customers. But thats when 5-speed stick remote starts didnt exist. Now they do. Its not worth it. Use whats available.
You are going to regret not getting the system designed for a stick shift, when there's an incident and you are facing a law suit
