Audio system setup
hey guys. me and a friend of mine are working on his 91 crx. Were in the process of redoing his whole interior, but we've come across a little problem. We would like to put speakers and subs in the back. He wants a tight setup. Also he wants a box most likely so he can take it out, when he wants. But we have ZERO ideas on how it could be done. If any of you guys have ideas, or have pics of there setups that'd be great. thanx
I used to have an 89 CRX with 4 12" Orion subs, two 8" subs, 4 6" mids and tweeters up front. The 12's were in an isobarik enclosure in the back and I mounted the amps in the tray behind the rear seat.
Amps go really well in the tray, but you have to cut the bottom out of the tray. I used computer cooling fans to draw air into the tray on hot days. I even had an auxiliary deep-cycle marine battery in the rear to run the system.
The problem with the CRX is that the rear hatch area is totally open. I would caution your friend about building a removable box - if he wants something like that, he should go with a bass tube instead. I have one in my Type R and they thump really well (the design has improved markedly over the last several years). The problems with removable boxes is weight - you don't want to have a 100 lb. wooden projectile in the back in case you get in an accident. Even if the box/tube is removable it should be very firmly anchored.
