Anyone here OWN a Eclipse AVN5435?
Ok so after reading and researching about this unit I decided to bite the bullet and get one. Overall the system seems ok. The whole Navi thing is overrated and I found out the hard way.
For those who do own the system I have a few questions:
1. How do you use the guidance? I have switched it ON from the settings but it doesnt tell me when to turn and such. It says to get on the highlighted path and it will guide me but it doesnt do jack shiat! It says that and when I arrive at my destination it tells me that and thats it.
2. My shiat wont reroute automatically. Are you supposed to do it manually or does it do it by itself? I thought it reroutes automatically. Again I have it switched to ON in the settings. I can make it reroute manually but thats a waste and thats not auto like how it says it should do.
3. How did you guys bypass the unit? Ive read to just ground it but the installer guy told me that its not a good idea. If you just ground it and disconnect your battery for some reason the system will trip. He told me I need to get a toggle switch to do it.
Anyone have a updated disc they are willing to sell or copy?
TIA,
Vince

Iirc you have to turn on the reroute automatically feature, and voice guidance has to be turned on and set to interrupt (sp?).
I would ask the "installer guy" whether he meant the eclipse unit in particular or just dvd players, because I have never heard of grounding the parking brake lead causing any issues with any units.
Been a while since I played with an avn though

no it wont cause any problems to ground it, he told you to use a switch because many units want to see the parking brake grounded twice in a row (ie brake up, brake down, brake up) in order to show video.
Im guessing since you have no idea how to use it that u didnt buy it from a brick and mortar authorized retailer. If you did then part of what you paid for was their expertise, go back and ask them how to use it.

I bought the unit from Crutchfield and installed at a local Circuit City that is a dealer of Eclipse units.
Some of what he told me about the grounding reminded me of what I read about the Pioneer units. The Eclispe is supposedly easier to bypass thats why I got it. He said the Eclipse unit was hard to bypass and all of the newer units act the same when trying to bypass. It seems like he doesnt know much but he is an installer of both units.
Considering he couldnt even tap my VSS right I doubt he knows what he's talking about.
Thanks for the input!
