Default Any suggestions on a SPL sub/amp combo?

In my integra hatch I am currently running 2 12 Alpine Type Rs in 3.0 cu ft ported box with the port (I believe it is 12 in square port tuned to 50hz). I am powering them with 375watts each w/ my lanzar 1500d amp. These subs seem to distort at higher spl which i seem to listen to the most. They get very loud, don’t get me wrong but loose strength in the lower bass frequencies. I have my gain turned almost all the way up with my seats down and it is still not loud enough which tells me i need to upgrade. I am looking for more SPL.

My couz has 2 12 Kicker Solobaric L5s in a 4.5 cu ft vented box, there are 2 vents, one for each sub i guess in his 95 dc2 hatch. Also using the Alpine CDA-9815. His setup sounds nice, F****** LOUD and clean. When I say clean I mean the bass does not distort at high excursion at all like mine. His system does not sound like there is an end to the volume limit. He is throwing 500watts to each w/ an audiobahn amp. I guess i am using his system as a reference and looking to have a system that knocks me off of my *** but is still pretty clean.

Any recommendations on a sub amp combo? One 15 in a ported or vented box or sealed? 2 15's or 2 12's? Sorry for the novel here but i want to do it right this time. I heard good things about the L7s.

I have a sublevel on my JVC HU that goes from 0-12, but other than that I have no other sub level controls aside from gain and bass boost on my amp. With my sublevel all the way up I still need to turn up the gain. What do you recommend?

Get a bigger amp, that poor thing is going to fry! For SQ, Arc Audio or A/D/S is really good stuff.

Edit: SPL, not SQ. oops

you may wamt to look @ the box design....I would say redesgn the
box and change the tuning freq to about 37-39 hz and hold on.
You would be pleasanly surprised. Now if you want a one note
wonder
...remeber the box wount play any other frequency than
what its tuned too. I have a 3 cuft ported box with 2 8" subs for my
crx that has a very nasty 13db spike around 56hz

Db Drag ownz...

have fun

no disrespect to you but you are using a crappy amp
upgrading your amplifier to something of a higher quality would do wonders for your system
if you need amp suggestions do a search, I'm pretty sure there's a million dudes that will tell you what they think is best

LOL dude, none taken. I kind of figured that when the hex screw broke loose inside the housing for the positive speaker terminal. I had to screw it in on an angle to lock it in. I am now scared to ever take it out since I am sure it will never go back in again. The amp also says its 1500 watts and stable at 1 ohm but has an 8 gauge power input. You get what you pay for i guess...

Thats why I need a 1000 watt amp thats solid... Any suggestions?

I have a Cerwin Vega Stroker 15 Brand New, Never been used for sale. It is an awesome SPL sub. It can take a beating and put up huge numbers. As for an amp get one that will put out as much power as your sub can handle safely. Class D amps would be the best. As for brands I couldn't tell you who is better, It is on personally preference. I'm using boston acoustics amps and the are perfect for my application.

these are all good...

my brother has 2 l7 15's, last competition we went to he hit an OK 143.6
at the same competition i saw one 18 inch kove armegedon hit around 137 or so.. not bad at all..

what class do you plan on running in?

for a good loud setup.. IMO 2 l7 15's.. and a good kicker amp..

we are running the new kicker sx1250.1 and paired with the two 15's it pound loud and clean in the vented box.

<plans on getting one more sx1250.1 so he can run each 15 with 1250 watts and then some..

as the sx1250.1 is rated at 1250 at 1 ohm, it is possible to get as much as 1500 watts...

I had 2 boston acoustic pro 12's in a sealed box hit 143.5(running 1250 watts to them at 2 ohms). So 143.6 for 2 15's isn't all that great.

It was done on an audio control spl meter. can't remember the model. We figured the mic was off by about over by about .2 from numbers on my friends car from last year with no changes on his system.

i didn't want to suggest any amps because there is always one idiot that says "no no no my amp is better" lol
I run a Mmats Class D amp and it is great, never gets hot, always delivers, and they have a great customer service department................
my D300HC puts out 750 into 4 ohms and 1200 into 2 ohms steady

see if you can find a used one on ebay or something, but then again, there are several good amps out there to choose from
if you are short on cash PPI amps are still pretty decent, and some dude was selling one of the last GREAT ones in the classifieds, the A600.2

whatever you do, DONT buy soundstream...............Power Acoustik bought them a while back (ugh) the death of a legend

i got 2 12" kicker solobarric s12l7s in my 93 coupe, slot ported 3.5cf box, with a jbl 1200.1 this combo in my 94 cherokee broke 145spl, and actually shattered my sun roof..( fucken 786 bucks for the glass ) im getting 2 of the brand new redesigned ones this friday, cant wait. jl isnt too bad also, but your paying alot for the name, my civic is loud as hell and i blew away my friends 2 w7s slot ported with 1000.1, type r's, everything.. then again systems are only going to be as good as the install, im sure you have heard that before, but it really is the truth, do everything right, make sure your amp is tuned right, if your goin ported with the subs make sure u have some kinda subsonic filter on the amp, or fmods, and set your gains on your amp with a voltage meter, it really isnt that hard and it you know exactly how much power your getting, take your time on the install and you can make any system bump.
personally i wouldnt put 2 15s in a coupe, 15s are good in suvs for all out bass, not very clean, and in a car with a trunk, you want to have a fairly tight subwoofer because vibration will be that much worse. 2 12's do the job just fine.

you want to visit this site.
http://www.adireaudio.com/mobi...s.htm

this sub, i have seen in person, one 12" in a sealed box nearly made me throw up standing OUTSIDE the vehicle. it was that loud. when he turned it (the bass) back down low enough to hear the other speakers, it sounded more crisp than any speaker i have heard, save the eclipse titanium series. and ive heard lots.

check out some of the videos further down the page.

I talked to the shop that built the box for me and found out what the exact specs are. 3.0 cubed with a 5x5x11 square port tuned to 38 hz. If I were to keep these subs I would need a bigger amp.

I am looking at some 15s called Magnum D2 and RE XXX. They apparently need over 1000 watts RMS to be happy, would be even happier with more power, and thats why I am lookng into the Hifonics 1500D. I believe the internal cube space for these apps are 4 cubes, looking to hit some major decibels.
