i got my 12" 4ohm for ($125). I expected more out of it, but on that token, i should have given it more juice with a stronger amp. i believe i used a 1cu. box and an alpine mrd-m300 amp. 4ohm parallel wired to run at 2ohm.
my only complaint was that it was too bulky and heavy...i switched over to a S10L5($125) and so far it sounds great

Theres probably not a better sub for the money, just feed it decent power in a nice enclosure and you'll be happy. Hell i had one 12" in my 4 door sedan being pushed by 500 watts rms and it pounded. This was in a ported box by the way.

ALPINE MRV-1507 POWER AMP.......1500 WATTS!!!!

I've had a set for awhile. they are very power hungry. In my opinoin you need 750 or more watts for these. I've had better but they are pretty nice for the money. Mine have a bunch of holes in them because some punk couldn't get them out of my car so he put his screwdriver through them a couple times. They still work great, they didn't hit the coils at all.
The cool thing about the apline 1507 is it is a class a/b amp. How many amps these days over 1000 watts are class a/b, hardly any. You could hook up like 100 tweeters to it, wouldn't that be crazy. back when that amp came out i've seen people put one 1507 on each set of speakers. 1 for front components, 1 for rear and 1 for subs. That would be nice.
Alpine Rules!

I just installed a 3 12" type R's in a Honda passport ran by a MMATS 1400 watt amp. I was pretty impressed with the SQ from the subs. For a 115 bucks each
. Best bang for the buck if your on a budget.

I believe it! But please tell me he's building some trim peices around the encloser.

i had a type-r 12 sub and upgraded to a 15" sub.. i needed a new amp to power it so i got rid of it.. i work at cirucit city so i get a good deal.. i just orderd the new MTX 9500 12" sub.. damn thing weighs over 50lbs and cost 500 retail i cant wait till i get it in .. its gonna be powered by either the mtx thunder 801d or 1501d amplifer..
I am not an MTX fan, because of the stuff they have put out before. But there is a lot of stirring in the termpro board over this sub. Tell us what you think of it.

I have 2 12" 2-ohm Type Rs powered by an Alpine MRD-m500 v12 amp. They're in a sealed enclosure. It pounds very hard with nice clean bass. When you stand outside my car, it sounds as though my license plate, OEM spoiler, and rear window are going to fall off (I guess I need Dynamat...haha). I try to keep my bass control about 1/2 way or so because it gets too obnoxious.
Another one of my friends has 3 12" Type Rs powered by an Alpine MRV-1507 v12 amp and it pounds harder than mine. They are also in a custom fabricated enclosure.
