Hi,

well I'm new here and am now the proud owner of a '97 Accord LX..I love car audio and would like to go all out w/a full Alpine set-up..Now I understand that the door speakers are 6.5", and I would like type-R's but crutchfield.com claims they wouldn't fit? Can Type-R or even Type-S fit in w/little to no problem or what? My brother is a whiz at this stuff so he'll be installing but I don't want it to be a headache for him..Thanks for any help

The Alpine 6.5" speakers are all "over-sized" 6.5" speakers, [except the Alpine marine 6.5" speakers] Honda/Acura use a "standard" 6.5" speaker, they use a 5" mounting hole and just under a 2" mounting depth, the Alpine 6.5" need a 5.2" mounting hole and 2.8" mounting depth, [Type R].
As with most "over-sized" 6.5" speakers to get the most out of them, the stock plastic speaker housings should be replaced with custom MDF housings. 94

 

^^^True. FCM helped/guided me on building some for my front doors and they make a HUGE difference. I have the Alpine Type-S components BTW.
