Default Alpine CDA-7897

Is this a good deck to start with?

I'm just getting into the car audio thing so I don't really know too much about it, and a local store here wants to give me a deal on this headunit.

Thanks!

its a nice deck but if u have it install in the orginal space, it will be a pain, judging from your name, you have a GSR. When the screen comes out, it will be very close to your shifter, then also u can use your cup holder anymore with that deck.

If you are just getting into the scene, that deck is an overdue. You should try for something in the lower range...like a alpine 7893 or 7894, that would be enough.

as far as I know this deck plays mp3s, what do you mean by the deck is overdue?

he probably meant overkill, cause it has ALOT of features. i havent had any problems installing this deck in an integra. if you want you can install the kit upside down so the radio is on the bottom and the pocket on top.

It will fit in the lower din opening. It is not close to the shifter at all. The cup holders are unuseable though. I bought a 99 cent cup holder at autozone and clipped it into the back of my center console

If your worried about the flip out face, check out the 9815 Here. It's basically the same thing, but instead of having a flip out face, it has time correction. The MSRP on both units is $500, so maybe he'll cut you a deal on this one too.

is there an advantage to installing it upside down? I think I'm gonna pick it up today, they're selling it to me for $500(after tax) installed with a 3 year replacement/service warenty.

I hope someone tells me if this is a good deal or not before I run out and do it

Sounds like a descent price. I got my 7998 for 560.

well I just got it installed today, so far I'm loving it way better than the stock deck.

Though all the features are really confusing me, I'm not sure how to set the equalizer correctly. Also do you have the settings for the time delay setup?

<-So confused.....

You are correct. Althought the 7897 allows you to turn off the internal amp to reduce noise when using an external amp.

I don't think its that the manual is too confusing its just that I'm new to this whole car audio thing and i have no clue how to use the features effectively.

Do I need to mess with the crossover settings?

What is your setup? Are you running external amps? Subs? Model Speakers? etc..

Well all the highpass crossover will do for you is remove bass that is outside the response range of the speaker... This translates into less distortion at high volume. I have my quarts set with a high pass crossover at 100Hz with a -24dB slope. Makes them sound good. But I also have a sub for the low stuff.
