Alpine amp...too much current?
i have a mrd m500 amp and every onve and a while it goes into shut down mode and displays E3, meaning that there is too much current running into the amp. Does anyone know how to find and eliminate this problem of too much current?
i had that same problem with my alpine amp. i just got a new amp. i tried everything to eliminate that problem but it runs hot all the time and cuts out all the time too.
how many ohms is the amp seeing ? the mrd300 is only rated to be 2 ohm stable, anything lower than that it it would case the amp to shut down and get hot like you are describing.
Ohm load is major culprit as well as power and ground wire size. I would run 4 ga for power and ground, also, do you have a good ground still? I would undo the ground, clean it, and retighten it back down.
Your question is funny because of your wording
. Current doesn't run into the amp. Your amp draws current from the electrical system based on the load and volume the amplifier sees. So at low volume an amplifier may be stable with a large load (low impedence). As the volume goes up so does the current draw. You situation sounds like you are running to large of a load for the amplifier or you are sustaining high volume for extended periods of time. So the way to fix the problem is to reduce the load or turn the volume down some. You are probaly just hitting a peak point that is over the amplifiers limits.
