who makes the alarms w/ the lcd screen remotes? the ones that show a pic of a car and if its being tampered with and if doors are open? and how much do those run?
and why does everyone recommend the clifford avant g4? what so good aobut it and how mch do they run for?

clifford alarms in general are highly recommended because of features like:
2-point immobilzation
coded valet
PC interface
reliability
and the list goes on....
the avantguard 4 is one of the comprehensive alarms available today. it has just about every feautre you could want (remote start, dual-zone shock and radar sensors, motion sensor, wireless immobilzer, along with the features mentioned above). the only features it's missing are the LCD remote and the ability to be connected to a tracking system. i think the next generation of clifford alarms will probably include these features and raise the bar again.
as far as what's out there.....i would only consider the ungo/clarion MS2007, alpine sea-8081 (discontinued but you might be able to find one), prestige 995 (model # could be off) and crimestopper's millennium pager system. i'd pass on the compustar system. it doesn't seem to be made very well (cheap relays, parts, remote looks and feels kinda cheesy). besides compustar isn't a major player in the alarm market and their reliability hasn't been proven yet. some people will probably tell you it's great and they love it but i'd feel better with a brand that's been out there for a while.
btw....installation quality is going to be your biggest concern once you've decided which system to go with.

i'm not too familiar with the autoloc stuff.....it's hard to tell from their pics how well-built the product is. also, i couldn't tell what their warranty is based on the info from the site. the refund policy seems a bit harsh too.....25% restocking fee and the product has to be unused??? i can see 10-15% if the product is resellable but not in original condition. if it's unopened, the refund should be 100%.
try to find people who already have an autoloc unit and see how they like it. otherwise, i would just stick with the well-known brands.
btw...BIRT relays stand for built-in relays.

Autoloc is what all the kit-car and old school muscle car guys use for cars with shaved handles. They seem to think of autoloc is the "standard" for shaved door kit solenoids.
For your purposes, stick with the bigger retail names; clifford, DEI, Alpine, etc. - you can get broken stuff replaced easier when there are local retailers for it.
