Alarm Sirens
Anything DEI will be good quality. Just make sure it's genuine.
Go with a 514N on the exterior (in the bay or wherever you come up with) with a 1A or 2A fuse, and a 513 mini stashed somewhere in the cabin and hard wired in. That way if the thief gets to your main siren and shorts it the fuse blows but the other one keeps going.
You can get both from Amazon for <$30

What is DEI?
I just ordered this for the cabin/dash. I believe that is the 513 that you mentioned. Can you link me to a DEI 514N?
I may just put the 513 inside and nothing on the exterior. I dislike having sirens visible in the bay, and I believe the reason my old one died is because it was too exposed to water/salt/snow being underneath the corner headlight with no splash guards.
I will wire the 513 straight to the alarm headunit and if I feel that it is not loud enough for me to even notice that I am arming the alarm from outside the car, then I will splice that wire and run an inline fuse to somewhere in the bay. I need to find a better spot on the exterior. Is splicing to another wire with an inline fuse what you mean?

DEI = Directed Electronics, they manufacture the bulk of the name brand alarms sold in this country. Clifford, Viper, etc etc are all made by them.
Just google the 514N and amazon, should pop up under the Revenger name and "soft chirp"
