Default Alarm re-wire

Alright, so I had a Viper 850XV installed by Circuit City on my del sol. No options, just the standard security system. Just recently the "brain" stopped accepting the signal from the remote. I called Viper and was given the option to upgrade, the only catch is I had to send in my 850XV "brain" and remotes. They sent me the 1002 model, and I have to install it myself. My question is how hard would it be to wire this in?

If the plugs are the same, it may be plug & play... If not, the wire colors are probably going to be the same, so you could cut off the old plug, and wire the new plug onto the old wires (what I did in my car).

Either that or have Circuit City do it... I was an installer for Ultimate Electronics and this is considered warranty work... MOST all big box stores have the same warranty, life time on install as long as you are the original owner... I can't tell you how many times I pulled alarm brains out for swaps like this and re-install for FREE. Once you tamper with it the warranty is VOID...

Not to bash on installers but I am not pleased at all with the way Circuit City wired it in there to begin with. Granted it is a p.i.t.a. to do but at least do a little better than wrapping two wires together and taping them up. If it comes down to it I will go back and have them re-wire it in there, just wanted to see if H-T could give me a little help.

Did they forget that the customer is paying for the installation/labor? The store gets the alarms for nearly nothing and charges an arm and a leg....then, lets some lame retard mess up on the install. How pathetic?!

Are the wires soldered and taped or just twisted together then taped? There's a big difference.

Bashing on installers is fine if their work is ****, but don't lump us all in the same group

Again, don't lump everyone in the same group. Not everyone who installs at a chain store does a shitty job.

Every job will have their slackers and "half-a*sers".

Yeah let me clarify, TWISTED and taped. No solder. That would be the reason I don't want to go back. Good point though, I shouldn't lump all installers together, there are some who take great pride in the work they do and others do it just enough to get by. I would love to be able to do it myself partly so I can clean the rats nest up and the other reason is so I can learn how to do it myself. However, I'm feeling as though it might be a little more than I could do with out screwing something up. Looking at it I found it to be more than just matching wire colors up.

Well if that is the case and it looks like hell and **** isn't soldered or butt connected I would go back and ask to talk with the Store GM and go down the chain of command... Eventually it will get fixed up to standards and hell you might swoop something out of the deal. You are 100% in the right if this is what happened in your situation. I do know that it is SOP for CC to solder all their connections...

Like everyone said... There is always the ones that just got by. We had em at Ultimate and I loved how they were the ones that always thought they were better than BB or CC. When I knew phenomenal installers at both places...

I went and looked at my buddy stereo he had put in a little while ago and all connections are soldered, I don't want anyone to get the wrong idea that they don't solder. Probably just a bad seed in the bunch, went there not too long ago and noticed that the individual that had installed my alarm was no longer working there. Maybe all that getting by finally caught up to him.
