Alarm issues...
I got a 93 del sol si from a friend of mine, who didn't have the money or time to fix the motor issues the car was having. She told me the car had an alarm, and that it only worked intermittently, and Since I got the car, Ive been trying to do some work to get the car up to snuff again, and I pulled the battery to charge it, and when I put the battery back in, I went to turn the car on and roll down the windows (small leak, a little smelly) to let it air out, and nothing works but my hazard lights and my horn. no headlights, no radio, no door ding, nothing. I have the remote for the system, but When I pus disarm, nothing happens, and I still get no response from the car. The system at hand is an Excalibur al 1000, and I wonder if its salvageable, or i should rip it out and start anew, and if the latter will be easier, I have no prior knowledge of alarm systems and what they are tied into, so I'm afraid to pull out some stuff so the car wont work period. Excalibur's manual says there should be a valet switch somewhere in the car, but I nor my friend know where it is. Im really wanting to get this car off of jack stands, so any help would be appreciated.
Jesus.. Do they not teach sentence structure in school anymore??
And all of those little red squiggles under the words you type mean that you've spelled that particular word wrong.
Anyways... Have you checked the fuses for the headlights, windows, and everything else that doesn't work.
You may have some luck pulling out the alarm, but I bet you've got some blown fuses...

I know the sentence structure wasn't quite up to par, but I was unaware that I was being critiqued.
As for the alarm issue, Would it work if I was just to cut all of the wires leading to the alarm system? Again, Im new to this kind of thing. Ive pulled out the main unit, and everything was plugged up correctly, but there was a black wire running from the back of the main unit that was attached to nothing. What is that wire supposed to be connected to?
and this green one, what is it for?
There was also a plug with a small circuit board hanging from it. piccy
This would be much easier with an installation manual, but all i have is the online one about how to change functions, and I have no problems programming, just the wiring side of it.

You're not being critiqued, but it's much easier on the people from whom you're seeking help if you don't ask questions in "screen door" fashion...
If you cut all the wires going to the alarm, please don't cut them all at once. Cut one, cap it, cut the next, cap it, and so on and so forth...
However, if the installer installed a starter kill or the like, cutting the alarm's wires won't make the car start. The preferred method here would be to trace each alarm wire back to it's source, and remove the wire at the point that it's tapped into the car's wiring. This way, you can see if a starter or ignition wire has been cut in the vehicle's harness. Then, you can reconnect it and hopefully solve your problems...
The long black wire might be an antennna.
No idea on the green one.
The bottom pic looks like relays.. Maybe external lock/unlock relays?? :shrugs:

The alarm isn't causing all those problems. The radio, door ding, headlights, that has nothing at all to do with the alarm. The alarm might not allow your car to start, but most of the time if the alarm doesn't power up, your car can start just fine. It depends on whether the starter is wired normally open or normally closed. The vast majority are normally closed.
Sounds like you have an electrical problem.

okay, learning a little more about it as I get deeper into the alarm wiring, and this is gonna suck pretty bad. I found a couple of wires (found to be the 12v constant and the acc wires) that were barely attatched, so im gonna try to rewire them tomorrow, because Im trying to save the system if I can. (power locks) any more help?
IF it's an Excalibur alarm it should have a wiring guide on it.
This is the "tag in" sheet for your car... http://64.85.6.121/diagrams/pr...eID=3
Yo do not need the door lock relay pack "There was also a plug with a small circuit board hanging from it." you just need the harness, probably a 3wire harness, green, blue and red, you only need the green and the blue, low current neg.(-) pulse door lock outputs,, green is lock and blue is unlock.
I agree, pull it compleatly out and start again, and solder all the connections, [if the power and grounds are bad] how about the rest of them?

the other connections are made by the crimp ons with the piece of metal that splices itself into the other wire, but the power was just kind of wrapped around another wire and taped, very little contact. Im going to try and put the 3 (12,acc,grd) onto known hot, switched, and ground spots and see what happens. As long as i have my remote i should be able to turn it off should it start going off, yes?
alright. some issues resolved. I have the headlights/other crap going now. turns out when the prev. owner replaced the battery fuse (under hood box) he put it into the roof fuse slot. swapped them around, made a world of difference. still working on removing the alarm, one wireat a time, as you all have said, and im working my way down from start on the alarm cover. wish me luck!
alright, Ive pulled out the alarm, and it wasnt near as bad as I had thought. While tied into almost everything in the car, I just cut before and after the splice, butt connected the wires together, and taped all connections afterwards. My only question is this: with the alarm brain gone, will my power locks still work? I dont know if the 93 del sol si was standard with power locks, but if they dont work, its no big.
Either way, all i have left to do is remove the bolt the alarm was grounded to, remove the light, and the siren.
i appreciate all of the help, and maybe this thread will help someone else.
