Adding a Sound System....
hey i recently got some infinity 1030W 10 in subs wit reference series amp, nothing big. Im fairly new on to this installing a sound system. I was interested in adding it to my STOCK head unit, if that sounds good or will it work, and what are the steps in connecting my amp w/ the speakers and my subs. THanks
if your stock head unit has RCA plugs in them and a subwoofer crossover then your good to go..but most stock head units dont..acutally none do that i know of..if they dont you will need another CD player that has them..because you have to plug the Amp to the CD player using RCA cords..but if I were you id go ahead and get an aftermarket CD player.my prefrence is an Alpine...also if you get a new one..you will be able to better control the sound quality, bass control, subwoofer control, treble, blah blah blah

Aftermarket stereos are so much more tunable, there's not even a comparison. I like pioneer. Just be sure and buy something that's not cheap-o. ex. dual audio

oh and btw..the sub/amp setup is really simple..put the amp where you want it..bolt it down so it doesnt slide around first off..there should be two separte wires that connect into your amp and run straight to your sub or at least thats the way mine were..then theres another wire that you run as a ground wire..run the remote wire so your amp turns off when your car turns off..I believe I ran mine to the CD player...and then ofcourse there is the massively huge wire that runs to the battery...plug rca cables into rear of CDplayer..crank ya system son!

Yeah sounds about right. All the wiring connects should be marked on your amp unless its the 1946 model. RCAs will plug in to the back of the deck, match the blue remote wire to the blue wire on the head unit, stock speaker wires to the matched pairs....the speaker wires aren't necessarily going to be the same color as the ones on the head unit if you get an aftermarket. I strip all the wire ends and then just twist the pairs together until I'm sure the fad/bal correct for the head unit control. Bass controlers are pretty self-explanatory to hook up. Be sure and put a fuse in the main power relay from the battery to the amp. It's easy to run the main power through a pre-existing plug in the firewall. Use a pre-existing bolt for the ground on the amp. That should be about it, the first time can take a while, but it just gets faster after that.

yea be patient lol cuz trust me it will get frustrating the first time..and then once you figure it out your like dang thats easy...it will take a few hours for your first time but after that its simple..oh and btw your amp and subs prob wont work at first when you first wire everything up..more than likely your gonna have something hooked up wrong or you'll probably forget something..trust me lol

cool thanks, so ima def than go for a aftermarket headunit. ,,,how about those on ebay the onces from hong kong have you seem them are they okay?....yea i think i kinda get it. where is the remote of the car so i can connect that to the amp. You know where their is a site that show the wiring?
when you buy the wiring kit for the subs..it comes with the small blue remote wire...run it from the amp to the blue wire that is on the back of the CD player..It should have some sort of instructions with the wiring kit..probably not the best but i havent seen a wiring diagram..its different for different systems..its pretty simple though..also..dont buy something off of ebay...go to best buy..get you a good CD player..like i said before..alpine or a pioneer
Dont buy stuff off of ebay as appealing as that CRAP may seem its not worth the money..most of the time that crap doesnt even work..and if it doesnt it shorts out or breaks the first day you have it

the only legit stuff on ebay is the name brand stuff..all that crap coming in from hong kong and crap is a no go trust me..ive made the mistake of buying some of that crap back in the day when i was 16 and had just got my car
haha, true, I guess if its from hong kong and claiming to be name brand then it's probably fake as hell. Most of the stuff you find good deals on is used name brand stuff, I got a DC sports header the other week for like fifty bucks.
Just to throw this out there, but you dont have to change your stock deck to add an amp and subs. Theres a High level Input, which you splice into the rear speakers and connect it to the amp. It filters out the Highs and plays the lows, using the rear as the signal. OR theres an aftermarket 'line out' converter that is again, spliced into the rears and it has rca on the other end allowing you to add an amp.
If you do still want to get an aftermarket deck, think of all the features that you would want in it first, dont just buy the first one you see cause its cheap. Think if you want an organic OEL display, or a remote, or MP3, cd-RW, ipod hook up, or even bluetooth.
I recently got a Premier(pioneer) DEH-P980BT. It was kinda pricey, but I have a friend who works at future shop, so I got 10% off. Not a big deal, but I love the deck, and it has bluetooth so I dont have to hold the phone with my shoulder while I try to shift or wear a stupid ear piece.
Heres a link if u wanna check it out, its a killer deckhttp://www.pioneerelectronics.....html

yes I agree with you...but having an aftermarket CD player is so much better I think..ive done it both ways and I think that having the aftermarket CD player is a much easier and better way to go
It depends on your musical tastes as well. If you listen to mostly the same genere of music all the time, you can tune your amp to sound good for that type of music. But if you have varied music tastes, if you tune your amp for country and then decide to play rap, it's not going to sounds as good and then you have to go to the whole trouble of re-tuning the amp. With an aftermarket head unit, you can just re-adjust the tuning with the deck.
here s the ebay link of the cd deck for only 210$.

its very tempting looks good and stuff but like you said it not brand name. I think ima stick with an alpine, do they have one with AUX outputs to hook up any mp3 player?

dont buy the ebay one, go with alpine.
if you get one equipped with ai-net i know for sure you can get an adaptor that tuens it into an aux input. i think theres an adaptor for the m-bus ones too.

okay guess ima settle for an alpine. So Does anyone know how to make a speaker box for 2 10in subs or what kinda of wood they i can use to make one if its not that hard...
I like 3/4" particle board. Pretty easy with some basic tools and knowledge. Be sure and seal it up before you put the subs in. Hit me up if you want detailed instructions or something, don't feel like typing them on a whim.

No, I meant particle board. And why not use it? I built a box with it and it's been pounding away for 2+ years, sounds great. At least give a damn reason to back your **** up if you're going to call me out like that.

With stereos, you get what you pay for. A $200 deck is 100X better than a $100 deck. If you can get a $200 deck on ebay for $100, that's your choice. But paying $200 for it is still 100X better. Good luck returning it if there's a problem with it. Also, you wont get free installation like you would at a chain store. Will ebay tell you what dash kit, harness, and antenna adapter you need? Or if your car has a OEM amp that needs to be bypassed? If your OEM harness was cut off, will ebay hardwire it for you? Will ebay set up your equalizer and tune your amp for your sub so you don't blow it up?
Line out converters sound like ***.

hmmmm...mdf is more dense, stronger, and easier to work with than particle board. most anyone will back that up. you went cheap on your box, better luck next time dick.
