Adding a Cigratte lighter socket circuit???
simple cigarette lighter socket circuit
Hi my factory cigratte lighter circuit is damaged and i want to just make another socket for different purposes to charge my i pod, etc.
will any cigrate lighter socket work such as the ones in wall mart etc, auto-stores, plan to cut the wires and ground em also connect it power??
What amp fuse do i use
also if i want to add a power switch to the circuit what type can it handle amp. Is this correct.

Well you would put the fuse within a couple inches of the battery. Any length of wire between the fuse and the battery is unprotected. The fuse rating will depend on the gauge and length of the wire. I can't see going over 30, and 15 is probably fine for anything you're going to plug in. The switch would also have to be a bit higher rating than the fuse. But I wouldn't use a switch as that's pretty hokey. If you really want it, I think you should wire in a SPST controlled by ignition or accessory power. If you use ignition power, then your device wont blink off and on during starting.
Wiring the relay as always would be accessory power to 86, ground to 85, then cut your socket's power wire in half and run one end to 30, the other to 87.

15 amps i will use then.
is my diagram correct how many inches excatly safe away from the battery or should it be near the cig. lighter.
i got a regular racing cover switch that is rated 30 amps, is my diagram correct for the switch location or do i need relocate to put the switch on the ground side circuit etc.???
