Default Accord Headunit

I just installed a new head unit in a mates '00 Accord and when i was soldering on the new plug for the head unit there were a few wires left over, which are pointed out by green arrows in the image below.

The top wire is solid red and the bottom one id red with a black stripe. I connected them to opposite ends of a AA battery and didnt hear a speaker pop, i used my multimeter on them and there not accessory nor conctant power. He has an internal aerial so i'm assuming there's no need to power it.

I finished the install and the new headunit works fine so i'm baffeled with what these 2 wires were for.

You didnt hook those up!!!!!

These wires are not always needed for a aftermarket deck install, illumination is the red/blk and cant recall the other w/o notes, too many years in the industry and too many cars to remember....getting older doesnt help. Sounds like you have it under control and have a pretty good grasp on what your doing.

The red/black is illumination power, the red is illumination ground, [from Dash Lights Brightness Controller].
If the HU you installed did not have an orange or orange/white lead in it's harness, no illumination leads need to be used, cap both the red/black and the red so they can not short to ground.94
