Default accesory line that is always on???

I've got a 92 eg, and I need to find a source of power that has constant power, including when the car is being cranked. I tried the cigarette litter power, and my stereo power, but power is cut to both when the engine cranks, I need to find a Constant source of power that turns on when the key is in the ignition only, and doesn't get cut when you crank the car. Hope this makes since, if you don't understand just say so and I'll try to explain further.

thanks

The wire you are looking for is located in the ignition harness under your dash. Get a meter and test each wire (there is around 8 of them. Find the ones that turn on with the key and start the car. One of them will not zero out. I would tell you the exact color but sometimes the color our computer tells us isn't always correct.

i think there should be a constant 12v source to your head unit. maybe you were tapping into the ACC wire, which does not give out a constant 12v. If you have an aftermarket headunit with a wire harness, the constant 12v is the yellow wire.

What exactly are you trying to do? If it is keep something on, such as a radio, while the vehicle is cranking then you may have problems. When you crank alot of power goes to the starter and the voltage drops to the point that alot of stuff will shut off. I had to use a 1/2 farad cap just to keep a cva on during cranking for a detective.

its for a computer in the car, I have a special power supply designed just for this. I found the wires under the dash, the only problem is I need a source of power when the key is on accesorry, the next one up, (don't know what its called, the one that makes the oil light and all the red warning lights on the panel come on, and I think turns on the fuel pump) and when its being started. the is one wire that stays on when in position one, but goes off in position two, another that goes on in position 2 and during cranking but goes off in position one. I need to find a wire that is only powered when the key is in the car, and has power during all three positions.

another thing is it bad to leave the key in positon two? I've heard its bad for the fuel pump ect, but not sure if there is any truth to this.

THanks,
Jeremy

to a black plug or into fusebox, [depends on car] as for haveing ign. on without car running ,I can't see it as being good , although it's not like you have a set of points to burn out, but you you can always use both the acc. and ign, [ with a diode on each ] to trip a relay to supply the power ,then you don't have to have it all the way on to ign. but the ign. will keep the relay on if you crank the motor. 94
