Default 99 SI component help

I am looking to upgrade the components in the front doors. I am thinking of getting the Alpine SPX-17REF. Just wondering if I will be able to get them in. The top mounting depth is 2 3/8". I can add a spacer, but would like to retain the factory grille. Thanks

If the depth is too long you have to trim the plastic that's directly behind the speaker as you mount it to allow the speaker to fit. You will still be able to retain the stock grill. I know from personal experience with my last 99 SI. Btw dremel is your friend.

Yeah I figured I would have to trim the plastic, but am just wondering if it would hit the window.

You won't hit window so you will be fine.

The mounting depth is not your only problem and it is easily dealt with, as mentioned, the bigger problem is the speakers are not a standard 6.5", it is an over-sized 6.5" speaker and that makes a diff. in the mounting hole diameter, your stock 6.5"speaker uses a 5" mounting hole diameter, the Alpine SPX-17REF needs a 5-17/64" diameter mounting hole.

The simple solution, [not the best] is the make a spacer out of 1/2" or 3/4" MDF with a 5-17/64" diameter hole and an outside diameter of 6-11/32", [woofer diameter], mount the spacer to the stock plastic speaker housing and then mount the speaker to the spacer, the spacer will also give you the extra depth you need.

As I said it is not the best way, the best way would be to completely replace the stock plastic speaker housing with a custom MDF speaker housing, it will increase the SQ if the woofer including much better bass extension. 94
