Default 6x9's into EG Hatch (already searched, no luck.)

Hey guys i have a 94 DX Hatch with no rear speakers or mounts, I know I have pre-wires though. I need any info you guys can give me to achieve this (write-ups, links, pictures, ideas, facts, etc.) I've already searched for months and never got any good info, thanks.

6x9 speakers, or any oblong speakers are lousy. In most cases I tell ppl to remove stock 6x9s and go with 6"s they are ideal.
when hatches come with rear speakers they come with 6"s (not 6.5"s) that is what you want to purchase.
A couple of starter questions:
1. Have you upgraded you front speakers yet?
2. what is your goal, or point, to adding rear speakers?

When I got my Honda it came with some cheap 6.5's from Dual which are now pretty blown. I plan on replacing them when I also custom install the new rear speakers.

From what I've learned, all 92-95 Civic Hatchbacks came with 6.5"s in the front and Hatches that came with rear speakers (Like Si's) have 5 1/4"s in the back.

For the front are you recommending me to install 6"s instead of 6.5"s?

and also for the rear not to install oblong (oval speakers I assume your refering to) speakers? I have heard also that they are unreliable.

My goal is to have a nice setup with good sound quality and bass on a budget(trying to stay away from subwoofers and amplifiers), I have connected 6x9's to my rear pre-wires for an idea of how it will sound and I was satisfied.

Thanks.

How do you plan on mounting the rear speakers? I would go with 6.5" in the front and rear...

That's a very good question because... I don't know! I was hoping someone on h-t could help me answer that. and I would like to wisely go with 6.5's or 6"s in the rear but they wouldn't hit how I want them to. 6x9's are larger and probably harder to fit but i'm willing to try.

Well I have a 1994 Civic DX EH2 and I certainly have pre-wires and I'm pretty sure you do too. Just pull your rear seats down, pop out your rear oem non-speaker panels and stick your arm down there for a good dig around. The wire is probably bundled up with a tape or tie and sticking to the inside wall somewhere.

6X9"s do not "hit harder" then 6.5"s

Really for the best SQ you don't want any speakers in the rear. But if you were set on doing it, I would get the OEM Honda mounts and put a 6.5" speaker in the rear panels. You can make a custom mount for them but you will still want the OEM grills and it will be rather complicated to fabricate.

Hondas do not come with 6.5" speakers nor have they ever. It is a 6" stock speaker, the problem is people confuse 6 inch speakers with 6.5s then they had to start calling an actual 6.5" a 6 3/4" because of that mistake.

If you want bass you really should add an amp, one good way to accomplish good bass out of stock locations would be to get some kicker cvt-6.5s or JL w3-6s and run them in the stock rear location off of a 4 ch amp (also running you fronts off it)
Dynamat is your friend.

6x9's = anti-sound quality
the problem is that the center area of the cone travels faster than the outer extremities causing the cone to "flex" which creates distortion.

6x9's in a hatch or any case where someone tried to oversize their speakers always results in the same thing: horrible sound and a shortened life expectancy. If you want to oversize your speakers you have to have custom enclosures made. It's critical to isolate the front of the speaker from the rear. It's critical to solidly mount the speaker.

When not mounted properly, the speakers produce little bass. People then crank up the bass on the built in equalizer and that coupled with high volume destroys the speakers.

I'm pretty sure the front speakers are actually 5 1/4. Unless they're a Honda 6 in which case I'm an idiot for not reading these other people's responses more carefully.

OK since it's been covered 1000 times, how about you do a search for me.

I need to know a way to custom mount a pair of 6x9's, 6.5's, or anything like that, into the back of an eg hatchback with no speaker mounts. Appreciate it.

buy the mounts from a honda parts counter then go to your local car audio shop and find some nice 6" speakers.
If you want to do what I reccomended earlier and use 6.5" subs in the rear location, then cut your own mounts out of MDF wood.

Huh.. My search for "rear speakers" came up with TONS of hits....
How about you try again...

This is everything you need, and 200$ is a good price as well.

This is a standard 6.5" speaker... http://www.eclipse-web.com/point/sp6500.html and other then mounting depth, it is a direct fit into most Honda/Acura, 3 of the mounting holes will line up with the mounting holes in the stock speaker housings.

This is an over-sized 6.5" speaker... http://www.alpine-usa.com/US-e...tab=F it will not fit a Honda/Acura without mods or adapters.

Standard speakers are...

1- 3.5"
2- 4"
3- 5.25"
4- 6.5"
5- 4x6 inch
6- 5x7 inch
7- 5x7 "football"
8- 6x8 inch
9- 6x9 inch
10- 4x10 inch

The above have been used in cars pretty much from the beginning of car audio, it is only in the past 10 years or so that non standard speakers have been used with the over-sized 6.5" developed to cover a number of car make and model specific speakers and the 5x7 football, [Toyota] 5x7, [Chrysler] and 6x8, [Ford] combined into a 5x7/5x7 football/6x8 "universal" speaker. 94

Have you looked into the JDM speaker mounts by Gathers?
