6x9s in the front door
As the topic states im trying to find out if anyone has put 6x9s in the front doors of a EK? i know this would/will require quite a bit of modification, and alot of time, but the reason i want to do it is because im running 125Watts RMS to my front speakers and they can not handle it, most 6x9s can handle this power, they do make 6.5s that can handle it but i dont want to spend that much money when i can get some 6x9s for alot less. so anyways, i searched and found nothing. Anyone know of anyone else doing this? or anyone think about doing it themselves? let me know. Thank you.
Anything is possible with enough time & money. You just need to cut the door panel and space it out appropriately so the magnet doesn't hit the window.
Is it worth it? Probably not.
Wouldn't it just be easier to turn the gain down and run 6 1/2's???

125 watts isn't loud enough for you? You must be deaf by now. And how do you know they can't handle it? I'll bet my money that your system isn't adjusted correctly.

This makes no sense to me. Is everybody else going deaf or is my hearing really sensitive? I'm running 18 watts rms to each of the two 6 inch mids in the front doors, and thats plenty loud. I even had people turn and look at me when I had my music turned up. It was cold, I had my windows rolled up, the lady next to me had her windows rolled up, yet somehow she still heard me and looked over. 125 watts and you still need more? Makes no sense.

I had to cut-up my doors just to fit some large 6.5" infinity kappa's in my EK. I can't imagine 6x9's ever fitting into the door very well. First you need to measure the max mounting depth of a speaker before it hits the glass or the track. If you can actually find a 6x9 that's more shallow that that depth, you'll have to cut the crap out of your door's sheet metal. I dont think it's worth the time or effort. Either get a smaller amp, turn the gain down, or get some better 6.5" speakers. I'm only running 85W to all 4 speakers and they are PLENTY loud. My stereo had volume lever from 0-35. I usually drive around with it between 15 and 20. Anything over 25 is getting loud. At 35 it's painful and i would never be IN my car at a level of 35. So 125W to any speaker on the inside and pushing the level to the max would prob make you go deaf over a period of time. Just turn the gain down guy.

dont bother 6x9s sound worse than 6.5"s. spend the money on a high end 6.5" component set that can actually handle the power.
I know I have mentioned this before in other threads but MB Quarts love power.
A set of premiums (PCE-216) would take the 125w rms and want more.
