Default 25 Volt Battery?

Tried to install a CD player in my 91 Honda Civic. Hooked up the wiring harness, turned it on, and it sizzled, started smoking, then blew the fuse. Put the multimeter on it and got 25 volts on both switched and battery hot wires.

It's a 12 volt system, how does this happen?

Because your from salem and probably put a tractor battery in your car. J/k

Check the voltage at the terminal to see if you have 12V. Maybe you have the wrong battery in your car. Also check the battery in your multimeter to make sure your readings are accurate.
