Default 2001 cd player question

this is only for those who have a 2001 civic, as i don't think the radios are the same since the new design. i have the lx with the cassette/radio, and i want to add the optional honda cd player that goes under it.
my question is how well [or not] do these cd players work with cd-r's? i only use my owned burned cd's, and never buy store bought ones. so i need to know before i buy because i've heard a lot of stories about car cd players that skip or distort or even don't work at all with burned cdr's.

thanks,-dale

I've played a few in my wife's 01 CR-V accessory unit with no problems. I've also played several CD-Rs in the accessory CD player in my 96 Integra, and have only had 1 CD-R skip. After I cleaned the disc, it worked fine. It seems CD-Rs are more prone to skipping when they get smudges than standard CDs. Other than that, they work great!

Good luck!

Well, i don't actually own a 2001 Civic, But I do work on Honda Automobiles all day long. While driving cars into the shop I have took notice that a large number of customers burn their own music on CDR's... I am the head accessory tech in my shop and if a customer had any problems dealing w/ any Honda Accessory it would come directly to me.. To make a long story short.. I haven't had customers complain about CDR problems, I have replaced many of CD players for skipping and what not, but that was only in units built around the 96-98 era.. These days it just seems to be a much better technology, not just for OEM but for all manufacturers..

thanks for that insight. i just bought it today after work and installed it right away. works great, but i haven't had a chance yet to drive around and play it to see if bumps affect it. i'm sure they will to some extent, but hopefully very little. the only drag is that i think theres no function to forward within a song, only to the next song. i'll read the manual and hopefully theres a way that i'm just missing. but even if not, it's very nice and i'm glad i bought it.

thanks,-dale
