Default 2-way Alarms???

I'm looking at getting a 2-way alarm cause my Si came with a crummy blackwidow alarm on it. I've had viper alarms in the past and loved them, but I hear the viper 2-way gets shitty range. I dont want remote start, it would be nice but I have a 5spd and I've heard plenty of horror stories. The viper 690 seems like a nice system, but range.... Anyone have anyother 2-way alarms with good range(ie 1,000+ ft)

Thanks

I bought Compustar 2WSS-A if you get 2WSS-AS, it has auto-start and it WORKS with 5spd. I read about it and asked my installer..will have no problems. You should get this alarm

Thanks </TD></TR></TABLE> link http://www.compustar.org Best 2way alarm/starter out there as of now, they make both AM and FM alarm and alarm/starters, [ for manuals also].
The only thing that is better then a Compustar, is the Alpine that they are not making yet. 94

How do you judge one alarm being better than the other? They all have pretty much the same features, just different range.

one of the biggest problems with the range on these sorts of alarm system is how the installer routes, and stow away all the antenna wiring. Most installers will tell you they wrap all the extra wire nice and neat and then either tie it up somewhere, or hide the extra bundle. whenever you have energized wires coiled up like that, it reduces reception. I cut and soldered all of mine to correct length with no extras and my range is well over 8 blocks (line of sight), and 2.5 blocks with building in the way. I also took care to route the antenna wire away from power sources. But then again i could be wrong.

My 690 has "ok" range. It won't work through certain structures, but it's not a problem these days..works from the apartment to my spot...and from my work to the parking lot.

I do hear the compustars have crazy range though.

I have compustar, but the range doesn't seem too crazy to me. Or may be it is just my remote messed up.

It is mounted exactly where the manual said to mount it, in the top-left corner of the windshield. May be because my windshield is tinted and has that extra sun-tint thingy on the top of the windshield my range ain't that good? But then, the problem could be something else...at my work to the parking lot I always get reception (50 meters range may be)...and other times, when I'm inside some other building and much closer to my car I cannot get the remote to reach my car. So I walk out and get closer to the car, pressing button IV and trying to get my car to respond. Then I'm right there, standing near my car and still no response. Somehow a minute later it starts to work again. So I don't know what's the problem here...

And the advertised range of 1.25 miles (2km) is like 20-22 football fields? Damn, I'd be lucky to get in the field goal range.

any type of metal around the antenna will reduce its range. This is why your radio antenna is placed outside your car. Tint will also reduce range.

I also hope you are not cutting the antenna length or extending it they are a certain length for a very specific reason. They are designed to resonate at the design frequencies with proper phasing between the elements

No, I'm not cutting anything. Metal? But the whole car is made from metal...there's no place to hide.
