Default AS-1260M remote starter

Hi,

So I picked up a 01 Honda Civic almost a month ago, it came with factory installed keyless entry as well as a remote starter installed.

Now the remote start thing works, the model is Autostart AS-1260M the only thing with it is the unit has to be set into a thing called "ready mode" now the issue is the unit exists 'ready mode' with the following..

EXITING READY MODE
Once a vehicle has successfully been
put into READY MODE, any of the
following events will cause
it to exit READY MODE:
1. Opening a door. *
2. Pressing brakes.
3. Disengaging Parking brake.
4. Opening Hood.
5. Turning off Valet switch.
* NOTE: Opening a door while engine
is running by remote starter will
not cause vehicle to shut off,
but it will cause it to exit READY
MODE. Vehicle must again be se
t into READY MODE in order to
start again by remote starter.
Has anyone used one of these units before? What kind of remote start unit has to be put into ready mode everynight priot to starting it? This makes no sense to me and seems like a complete waste of money. I don't understand why the unit would exit the 'ready mode' the entire purpose is to have the unit be able to start the remote on cold days, you don't want to be having to set the unit up every night if you wanted to start it the next day...

If you drive a standard transmission car, it is a "safety" to prevent you from remote starting the car if it is in gear, [something you do not want to happen]

The EXITING READY MODE is fail-safe, again to prevent starting in gear, EG; you set ready mode and someone else goes in the car and puts it in gear by accident or otherwise, you get up in the morning and hit remote start and the next sound you hear is crunch, hopefully your baby sister is not playing in front of the car when that happens.

Maybe just something like this, no one hurt, right?

So your saying that with a manual transmission this is perfectly normal then to have this 'ready mode'?

Just seems like a burden to me honestly having to remember to set the thing up every night if I wanted to start it the next AM..

Yes it is normal, and a lot better, [less of a burden] then ending up like the Mazda in the drink, that was a remote start for an automatic, he was showing off the remote control functions when he hit remote start, someone at the show and shine he was at at knocked it into gear, so his Corvette V8 swapped Mazda ran over a few motorcycles before launching off the pier into the drink.

10s of 1000s of dollers of custom work down the drain, now that is a burden. 94
