05 double din install
is it possible--easily able to install a double din ~7inch touch screen in the 05 civics? I've seen pictures with them in there, but i remember asking on crutchfield live support a long time ago, and he said even with the metra double din dash kit, i would need to heavily modify the internals to make a screen that size fit
oh okay, do you think i would have to do any modification? drilling, cutting away pieces... etc.
I just want it to be flush with the dash is all

Yes, you're going to have to make some modifications to a.) mount it and b.) make it sit flush.
If you're uncomfortable doing it yourself, take it to a shop. However, you can't learn how to swim if you don't get in the water.

I'm curious is there a write up of anyone who has done it? curious on how much work it actually takes. im not afraid of modding my car, but i like to see what is ahead so i can decide if i am capable of doing it correctly

Im not sure what the 05 dash looks like but I have a double din in my 01 and it was very straight forward. Just mounted it to the stock cage and had to use a washer on both sides as a shim to center it. Do a search on metra's site for product 95-7899. You will need to trim the bar off that runs through the middle and sand it flush and you should be set. hope that helps
thats it! i dont know why they told you at crutchfield it wont fit? i used the mounting holes on the side of my AVIC D2 and the holes on the stock cage that the oe stereo is attached to. Once you have the old stereo out and the wire harness all plugged in, its literally a 10 minute install
as an aside, where do you live in Cheek-town? I have a few buddies that played hockey at erie

I dont have any pics now. I am in school up in philly and my car is back home. ill see if i can get my brother to take a few shots for me in the next day or so. I used the metra bezel. when you buy it, save yourself a few bucks and make sure you dont buy the entire mounting kit, just the bezel. you just need the bezel from the model number i posted (assuming the double din you have has mounting holes on the side). Even if only 2 or 3 of the holes line up, it shouldnt be a problem keeping it nice and straight.
Yea I know that area real well. I played hockey up there a lot in highschool. I played at the Amherst Pepsi Arena a few times

yeah man, keep me updated with the pics. im pretty confident i can get a cool looking full screen dvd player now and get it looking nice, thanks to you.
here we go...sorry for taking so long to get some shots. as you can see, a double din definately fits. This is with a pioneer AVIC D2
The top shot is just to show that it definately fits, and the second shot was to show how the fitment is around that Metra bezel i used (same one i posted a few posts up)

No i dont think its pushed in per se. When you pull your current head unit out, youll see a steel beam and your A/C plumbing behind the head unit on the top. The only way to install it flush would be to a)trim the steal beam back (which i certainly do not recommend...its there for your safety) or b) find a shallow HU that uses an external brain to be mounted elsewhere. Honestly, at first I kinda wanted it flush, but having it sitting back a little and having the bezel surrounding it significantly helps with glare on sunny days. This is really the only way Ive ever seen a double din installed on a 01-05 civic. anywho, hope this helps. lemme know if you have any ore questions
