Default project: surgery on roxanne (pics inside)

hey guys, i'm not really new to the site, just been floating around here and grabbing info. lots of great ideas and great info on this site i give you all props for that.

the story is bout roxanne (yes she loves it when i play the song by sting) haha, anyways. i bought her 2 yrs ago, private sale. total loss >< yes i know what your thinking. but it was safetied so its all good.
over the yrs, the car has been getting rough. the ussual starting to rust and such. the engine was in rouch shape and was burning oil. i my mom and i went halfers on 2500$ to get myself a new engine, rims and tires and lowering kit. got myself a new/used sohc zc, konig bronze rims, and eibach pro line lowering springs.

here's a couple of pics of her so far.

so anyways, thats that. just last winter i put in the suspension, and new bushings and replaced the rear brakes. drove awesome.
then my body started to get real bad, the bondo was actually cracking and there would be looong cracks too. and chunks of bondo would come off. so i said to myself, screw this noise i'm getting some money and some responsibility.
so i went to the bank got myself a credit card and a line of credit.

there was a number of things i wanted to do to my car but 3 things stood out the most.
1. body work for sure. i really needed the 1/4 panels fixed, and the bottoms of the doors.
2. fully custom exhaust, looking as stock as possible. i wanted to do this cause my old engine was smoking bad and there was ALOT of carbon build up in the pipes.
3. if i had money left over, a carbon fiber hood.

well i started ordering my exhaust. the parts alone came to almost 700$ cad. i ordered myself a magnaflow tip/muffler/caty and along with those i also bought myself a new dc sports header. my custom exhaust will be 2.5" all around.

first of the parts to arrive was the tip

man that thing is huge, i have second thoughts on putting that on there. so i might just even clean up my current one on the car. and sell the new tip.

next my caty came in, nothing special there. all the openings on each of the items are 2.5" so there would be easy to install the piping.

next came my muffler itself.

nice and shiney if i do say so myself!

now in the course of all these parts are coming in, my car was at the body shop getting work to her.
i originally took her to a ford dealership cause the autobody place there was the best in city (or so i heard). i used to work there as well too, so i knew i could get a good deal.
i said to them, all i wanted done was the 1/4 panels, welding in new metal, doing the bondo work and thats it. (cause i was gonna get a friend to paint it for me). so the guy started to crunch #'s. came up with a stunning result.............wait for it. .......... just under 3000$ for doing all that body work. i was appauled! i couldnt afford that. so the guy referred me to this other place.
i went over the same things with him that i did with the other guy.
so they qouted me 1500$ for just doing the 1/4 panels, welding in new sheet metal, bondo, primer and paint. i jumped on that and said deal.

later on i wanted to see if i can get the doors done too.

so here's the pics so far of the body work.
day one of the body work:

ya i know....ouch. they're doing one section at a time as well.

next day i went there.

they welded in the new sheet metal. and i also found this little surprise! ><.

holy rusted bumper support!!

i'll have to get a new one soon. they're not much at all really.

so now they start to really look at the car. then i find out the rocker panels are rusted to poop! so i told them to get the sheet metal for that!
here's a pic of the old rocker panel and the new one to the left of it.

the door skin where its all rusted

and the rocker panel underneath.

the guy pulled me aside to the car, he says come take a look at this. his qoute "who ever did this body work, should be shot to death"

the 1/4 panel literally had 1/4" of bondo on it. its not even parallel to the door itself!

so while they're all doing that, i decide to paint my interior back to black. cause the trim was red before.

in the progress of all this, i also ordered myself a new shift ****. the bronze blox one.

trust me. this thing wieghs a ton! its heavy!

so today i go to the body shop. and they grinded down the welds on the car, put in the new rocker panel.

the boys double teaming her!

i didnt know what to do with my old shift ****, so i wanted to have fun with her. i went out and bought myself that color shifting paint. and spray it down. its gold/magneta.

doesnt look to shabby actually. so i'll have two ***** that i can switch when ever i want to!

anyways. i'm really glad you decided to stop by and see this post.
dont worry there is still more pics to come, tomorrow i'm going by the shop to grab more pics of the progress. and i'll post them on here!

roxanne will be mint by the time its all done :D

P.S. no flaming either! please..

looking good...spending money on body work is a lot man. esp welding in 1/4 panels and such. for such an old car its gonna look nice when you get it done.

i just sold my CRX but it started to have rust onthe 1/4 panels again after i painted it two years ago..guess they didn't do a good job it.

just be carefull about getting into debt - its really easy to get into, but really hard to get out of. especially when you start young. Good luck with the build, and don't run up that card too high!

that looks like a lot of work. i get my quarters and rockers on my crx welded, bondoe'd, and painted for 600 from a guy in akron ohio. hes really good at shaping sheetmetal, then i paint it myself. works well.

nice build and i love red crx's

1500 not bad for all the work they are doing. did the price spike when they found all the rust on the rockers and what not?

Work looks great, but you'll regret borrowing the money to get it done when you're older. Trust me.

^^^ I was going to say that lol I think I am still paying for some Altazas tails from back in 2000 lol. Maybe some rims to.

Looking good man. It's something with eibach that never lowers the car enough.

small update:

went there and i brought both shift ***** with me and took pics.

first **** i put on was the shifting color one

then the bronze one.

also when i got there, the door was off and he had already done the lower door panel.

so now they said that they wanna get me fenders and just do a complete paint job on her. top to bottom. if they can get me the fenders for 300$ for the pair, then they can do it all complete for 3100$. not too shabby. they boss also said that they lowered the hourly rate on it. mainly cause they're good friends with my other boss that i work for haha.

they didnt raise the price on the car cause of the rust. they knew for a fact that there was gonna be that much. so they knew what to expect.

its gonna be real slow for the next couple of days cause the welder is taking time off for tomorrow till tues. and if it starts to rain on tues. then he'll be coming back. if it doesnt rain then he'll be staying till fri. and we'll finish it all on the following week.

they said they could prep the car for paint on the one side so then i can drive it around and then i plan on getting my exhaust put on and maybe even a new brake system.

another small update:

went to the body shop yesterday and today. one of the guys started on the bondo work.

this was taken from yesterdays visit. not too shabby. its a start, **** load of bondo on there, but it was waaaaaaaaay better then what it used to have!

then i went there today, and its starting to shape up nicely.

so all in all its coming out nicely! lots more sanding and grinding to do.
providing it rains next week monday and tuesday ( i hope) then the guy cant go on his trip and he'll have to work on my car lol. next week they'll start on the other side of the car.
dont worry bout not having pics on this thread. i'm at the body shop every single day to take pics haha. i hope they're not getting sick of me.

I would have cut a lot more rear fender out... Also, having that much bondo on a car is generally not a good thing. Bondo is not made shaping, but for filling in small imperfections. I would be scared of that... That's like half your quarter panel.

Be careful. The easiest place (and worst place) to get fucked is in bodywork.

eh.....i know but new rear fenders a piece is $500+ and i didnt have that kind of money hey. it'll look good though. it doesnt have nearly as much bondo on it, as it did last time. being it had like 1/4" of bondo on the rear 1/4 panels on each side.
