Default My first EK, bringing this car back to life

My very first EK. My customer walked off on the bill in 2016, I drove the car outside and it sat. This summer I got fed up of restoring(rust) my EG, I decided to get the title from the abandoned car, took a bunch of running around but I got the title in my hand this past Monday. Got the car running after work today, it needs a battery and the headgasket is blown, trans bearing is loud. I will put a permit on it, bring it home and start swapping it. This will be an all motor build for now, I'm hoping to beat my old b20vtec EG times I put up over 15 years ago. I'll try to document the build here.

Made it home tonight, 35 minute drive at the tail end of rush hour traffic with a poor brakes and a mildly blown head gasket. Another update and my buddy's take on it.

Took it for a spin last night

discovered parking under a tree was for 3.5 years wasn’t all that bad. I parked it outside one night and the taillights leaked. Vacuumed out cleaned the hatch channel opening a bit, I’ll replace the gaskets. I also managed to separate the antenna trim bezel and replace the cracked one onto the mast in the car, lol.

I had limited time Christmas Eve to work in this but I told myself I’d get it running by the end of the month. This happened yesterday afternoon... I need to replace syncros in my ITR transmission then the b16b goes in

🔴 I have 2 hrs to work on car... Live

I want to get it running first. I'll wash it eventually, when I get to doing the paintless dent removal. Or if I swap the left front fender or end up doing a Acura EL front end swap.

I wouldn't be able to handle working on a moldy car, but its going to make for awesome before/after pictures. Looks like a fun build so far!

Wife and her friends keep pressuring me to wash it, I gotta get it running first is the current excuse

I swapped in a carbon 2nd gear synchro today, sucker bits hard, feels so tight. I kinda want to send it but reading some threads here and watching some vids I'm going to tear it down again. I'll swap the stock worn synchro in and see how it feels, if it's good then I'll take some 1500 grit to the synchro mating surface on the gear and reinstall the carbon one and see if it helps. I've done this so many times before but never spent so much time double checking things, lol.

A little more progress. I Dug up a new OE distributor, feels odd putting new parts on this POS, Got the B series installed and bolted up a header and a catalytic converter!

Eventually, but probably after I run it down the track.

the interior is okay, freshly detailed. It just needs a glove box latch and a stereo. I'll likely stick a momo wheel on it and a shift ****. If I have sol seats a similar colour I'll do that too.

It's pretty crazy how cheap a headunit with bluetooth audio are these days. Pick one of those up from Amazon for $40 and you are golden. Any plans for the wheels? Are you thinking of keeping the wheels a stock look or something aftermarket?

That is going to be the most satisfying detail.

I've been ******* it with this.

I went obd1, I modified the original d16y7 harness, added in the wires for vtec, put on the right iacv plug. added knock sensor, repinned the harness connector to an obd1 distributor and extended the reverse switch wires. I took the 4 wires that went to the secondary o2 sensor and reused and repinned them in the ecu connector for vtec, vtec oil pressure and knock sensor, I have no idea why nobody ever says to do this. I bought a couple rolls of 3m black tape and taped it up over recycled loom to look fairly stock. I want to cut the plug off the harness to the distributor and add some more length, then I can start this thing.

I picked up some injectors from an abandoned 97-01 prelude(a whole other story, If that big rat didn't move in I would have brought this free car home too).

Damn I wish I had the skill and patience to weld. I spent maybe $150 cdn total this time around for the exhaust, bought some stuff, recycled some stuff.

Still picking away at this. And still under $400 Cdn spent! I could put in coolant and oil and turn the key. I want to button everything up before I start it.

Damn Virus really impacting my life here. At first I was doing things around the house on my days off, now every day is a day off. Looks like this will be getting some attention.

The car is 100% together. New to me used wheels and recycled some year old 205-50-15's. After 10 minutes of trying to start I remembered I had drained the tank, lol. Now It's looking like I killed the pump, has bad pressure, I'm going to recycle an old walbro 255 and hoping it'll fire right up. I also threw an O2 sensor code, checked my O2 resistance and it's dead, I'll have to get a new O2 too, damn.

I shuffled some stuff from the garage, sold my drag car. Also took a deposit on my daily driver suburban. Picked up a TRD widebody MR2(in need of repairs), another california car for me!! This MR2 looks crazy.

I figure I better get it running so it's easier to move in and out of the shop. Heres a vid of the first start.

My holley fuel pressure regulator was toast, I put on a new AEM FPR and for whatever reason it can't bring down fuel pressure to below 50psi, I swapped in the largest AEM return orifice and even checked the return line, its not plugged. I'm using a Walbro 255 pump. The other oddity is when applying vacuum or pressure to the regulator it does now change the psi, I'm going to take it apart and check to see if the vacuum/boost port if plugged. Anybody notice how the aem fpr port is really small, you can't fit a pin through it, maybe I'll drill it larger?? If not I'll just have to tune around it, as of now there is no way I can break in this fresh engine on a stock ecu. I was going to swap in a stock fuel pump for break in, I may as well just bite the bullet and tune it on the AEM EMS.

can you link IG here?

well it turns out the new AEM fuel pressure regulator vacuum/boost port was not drilled through, so I drilled it.

Set up the idle and fuel, the AFR is good enough to break in the engine on a jdm p30 ecu, also picked up a new ntk narrowband for it.
